fantasticjudyann
I am going on holiday next week and my 5 chickens are going to a chicken sitter locally. I am dreading trying to catch them all although I can try and tempt them with meal worms if necessary. I had thought of locking them altogether in my Go at night and then transporting them in that the following morning. The journey would take about 20 minutes and I would feed them and give them water when I arrive at the sitters. Has any body else ever done this ? Would there be any bad effects on the girls if I do this? Any advice would be appreciated …. thanks
Beantree
Sounds like a good plan Fantasticjudyann. Just one thing to do first I think. We wait until ours are sleepy in the coop and then move them to cages and transport at night. The problem with moving them in the coop is they will be on the perches. They are going to fall off, with the potential for injury, so the perches need to be taken out beforehand. How will the sitter get them back in for the return? Redwing
I would wait till they go to roost and pop them in well ventilated boxes then. I don't think I would move them in the GO, apart from being terribly unwieldy it may come apart
newcountrygirl
when we were moving house I just popped mine in the dog crate with some newspaper on the floor. They were fine on the 1hr journey.
Olly
Once a year I take my hens out to a 'Working Woodland' day. After the trauma of the first time that I tried to catch them in the run at 6.00 am with them getting more and more exciting and screaming blue murder while I got more and more desperate, I do exactly what Redwing suggests. Wait till they are asleep and then pop them into cardboard boxes with ventilation holes, or cat-carriers or whatever you are going to use. I wouldn't use the Go, for the reasons given above.
