General Anasthetic

Recommended Posts

So I dropped Lola off at the vet this morning for her little operation to install her implant

She was a lot happier this visit than the last time we took her in, and kept walking off the scales every time the vet put her on them lol! She’s gained over 200 grams in weight since our last visit, too. Clever little chicken!

Still feel bad leaving her, won’t rest until I’ve had the call at about 1pm to say she’s all ok.

Has anyone had experience of their chooks having a mild anaesthetic? How groggy is she likely to be after? She's just having gas so the implant can be put in her breast (apparently it works better there than in the neck), and the vet said it will be out of her system really quickly when they give her oxygen to bring her round.

We have experienced 2 surgeries: Pearl was returned to me completely awake after her bottom surgery (she had a growth not a prolapse as we thought). Sadly the other chook (I think it was Cidona) was fine though the surgery for egg yolk peritonitis but went downhill during recovery.

Having said that, Lola is just having a whiff of gas to keep her still for an implant, and she sounds like she's in much better health than my Cidona was, so try not to worry.

She's had her op, has come round nicely and is apparently chirping at anyone that walks past her cage :D

Now, roll on 6pm when I can get home and get cuddles (or, more likely, fleeting stroke her wing as she darts off in the other direction!).
