MaryHen
I have had my girls for 1 day. I have got a dust bath which at the moment has got some really fine soil in and diatoms until I can find some children's play sand. The problem is the girls are trying to eat it rather than play in it. With this take time? What do people put in their dust bath? Is very fine builders sand OK? Thanks Claire
mullethunter
Mine have big plant saucers with a mix of dusty beach sand, old compost and diatom powder. The pekins love to dust bath in them but the Wyandottes prefer a dry bit they've dug out in the floor of the run. All four of them eat bits of it
MaryHen
Thanks for the reply - how do you, if you can, keep flies to a minimum around the run?
mullethunter
I poo pick the bits I can reach most days. It's pretty successful in the Wyandottes end, less so in the Pekins bit but their poo tends to be small and dry so not too bad. I guess due to this the flies haven't been bad at all. Or it may be because Bernadette eats them all
MaryHen
Amber was devouring flies yesterday; it was so funny to watch!!! We are now thinking of naming her Venus - Venus fly trap!!
