Mr H
Fenland Mountain Rescue? Isn't that a bit like the Swiss Navy? It could very well be similar, We position ourselves behind the other three emergency services, in the snug at the "Black Bull" which doubles up as a perfect Opps Centre and charge us nothing as long as we donate funds to the GP fund raising effort, (Gross Profit not doctors) part of our training consists of the importance of rehydration and avoiding the dangers of exposed areas so sitting indoors drinking serves as a good practical demonstration in our meetings, I am pleased to say that none of our regular attendees have ever needed to call on the services of the Fenland Mountain Rescue which we like to think is testament to the effectiveness of our message and our ability to communicate it throughout the village. Funding is always an issue especially toward the end of the week but the volunteers are well motivated and willing to make huge personal sacrifices in other areas like family holidays and new shoes for the kids in order to keep the lights on (usually till the early hours) in the Opps centre, they don`t even mind the lack of recognition, one of the team worked so hard on Tuesday he couldn't recognise his own front door but still returned on Wednesday. Hope that's given you an insight in to the perils a brave few face nightly to make sure not one person will ever perish on a mountain in Lincolnshire "Not on our watch". The Dogmother
Great news Steve, glad to hear that he's doing well; a testimony to your hard work and dedication. Watch out - you'll end up with folks bringing injured critters to you - my daughter loved being a 'vet nurse' to them when she was younger. A friend who I come across on lurcher rescues once said to me 'you know, we can't save them all, but making a difference in a few lives is worthwhile'.
