The Dogmother
Had my latest eye test yesterday; I wear glasses for close and screen work as I am long sighted, but I end up wearing them on top of my head a lot 'in case I need them' as my far sight is perfect. My eyesight hasn't changed much in the last 2 years, but the optician suggested Ergo lenses, which I understood to be a type of varifocal, as they'd negate the need for me to keep my glasses in my hair. Now, if there's an obvious need for them, or they will have a genuine benefit, then I will consider them, but if they are just a new thing to sell, then I shan't bother as i will need new frames to accommodate them. Any advice or experience gratefully received.
Eggasperated
I've not heard of these. I'm the same as you with my eyesight but I wear my glasses on a chain and I'm forever getting them tangled up with my dangly earrings (great source of amusement to the younger students when I was a mature student at university ). WitchHazel
I hadn't heard of Ergo at all, but having googles them, it sounds like they are designed for the specific eye. I would guess they would give you the best possible varifocal experience at all 3 distances (near/midrange/distance). When I switched to varifocals, I went for the then highest index possible, which I think was 1.74. This made the switch easy, and I didn't experience the wooshing and blurriness that many people said they had. I had my spare pair relensed for varifocals as well, but I had a lower index, 1.5, put in them, as the 1.74 were prohibitively expensive for a spare pair. I also had 1.5 indec tinted lenses put in my sunglasses, as I didn't think I'd be wearing them that much. I have worn my spare pair on occasion, and they aren't nearly as easy to use as the 1.74. The sweet spot for each type of distance is smaller (than on the 1.74), and so I need to get my head in the right position to avoid blurriness. I wear my glasses all the time, so I would definitely go for tailored lenses if they were an option for my eye problems.
WitchHazel
Clare, did you get these in the end? Just wondering how they turned out...
The Dogmother
No, not yet - I decided that as there is only a slight adjustment needed to my prescription, and I can still see fine with the ones I have, that I'd wait until the lenses need a more major change before getting them. I can't really justify the cost right now, but they sound very good.
