Space Chick
Anyone got one? Do they work? Do they really stop bananas from ripening too quickly? It really frustrates me when I can't eat bananas in time. I always keep them out in the kitchen, away from other fruit as I was told to never put them in the fridge. However, these banana bags you are meant to store in the fridge. Would appreciate peoples experiences. Thanks!
Bramble
Well, I had one (it came from Lakeland, I think) and the biggest problem I had with it was that the bananas were always too big to fit in it properly! I gave it to friends eventually, they were thinking of buying one so thought they might as well have mine (not as a present, I would add, I told them it had to go one way or t'other) and they really like it - they reckon it's really good ... Valkyrie
Something I saw on FB was a guy wrapped the stems in clingfilm and that stopped them ripening too quickly. I did try that once and it did make a difference - but I keep forgetting to do it ever since!!!! But then over ripe ones get baked with a little demarara sugar and a teaspoon of water. Nice with ice cream. Ah found it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rG3uvrfY1ww
Cat tails
I always keep my banana's in the fridge... Works fine... They do turn black, but that is just the skin. They come over here being refrigerated anyway. I take them out the night before, just because I don't want to eat a very cold banana in the morning and to allow it to ripen a bit. Space Chick
I may try wrapping the stems in plastic then Thanks my lovely friend ((hugs))
Valkyrie
There was another vid on Youtube that wrapped each banana individually in plastic bags - looks a bit of a rigmarole but if it works then maybe another try. Can't see my menfolk wanting to fight to undo it all though! LOL!
Princess Leia
Agree with the above, wrap the stems in cling film. Also, don't keep them with apples - Apple skin emits ethylene gas which accelerates ripening.
soapdragon
I had a banana bag from Lakeland until it fell apart and it was fab - only one of us eats bananas and so, if I buy even a small bunch and want them to last they have to be stored....theres only so much banana bread you can eat (honestly!) I keep meaning to get another one but we don't have a Lakeland round here - nearest three junctions up the M40 - and am to mean to pay the postage for just one item However, I do need one and will get round to it!
