Mel (& Paul)
Rescue Remedy and talking to the chooks - best nerve calmign trick in the book (after 1 1/2 bottles of wine - not a good choice BEFORE the interview!!) Lots and Lots and Lots of Luck my lovely. You can do it!! You are an omleteer after all
Kathy C
Good luck Choccy! Take a feather for good luck. I know nerves are awful before an interview. It sounds as if you have everything prepared in plenty of time so you can add anything you have forgotten. Write down any questions you want to ask, and reponses to questions you can think of, to give you a prompt. The night before watch a comedy before bed, so you have a good night's sleep. chocchick
I'm planning on going to the pub where friends play music and chat to distract myself with a non-alcoholic drink. I've got an image of me pulling out a feather for luck now, and the chicken's face! I'm sure there will be lots about in the remains of our garden
The Dogmother
I've just heard from Choccy - she feels happy that she did well in the interview, but didn't get any other feedback apart from that they will be in touch in 2 weeks time. You go girl!
Kathy C
I am glad it went well, but TWO WEEKS.... What a long wait. We will have to distract her thoughts.
chocchick
What interview?! It was hard to tell whether I did well or not, and they said there was 1 more person next week, I was the tail end and 2 weeks was their PLAN, but may not work It's my first "proper" interview for a long-term job I would actually want, so could go either way. Prepare for tears if I don't get it though. On the plus side there is more than 1 job, and they recruit throughout the year in batches. Ladylucan
What was the job you actually went for?, what does it involve xx
chocchick
It's quite an obscure career. The agencies are paid by pharmaceutical companies to produce technical writing at different stages of the drug from the first clinical trials up to the final product. This involves Writing drafts of journals on behalf of medical doctors (they have the final say and read drafts), preparing posters for conferences (summary of research with pictures), writing abstracts (summary of research for the conference booklet (a programme a few cm thick on speakers). Information on drugs (non promotional), or text for websites. Other agencies also prepare educational materials for doctors, e.g. which cancer drug to prescribe, and material to educate sales reps. Technical writing part on trade stands at conferences.
chocchick
Didn't get it they said "we have identified candidates who fit our criteria more closely." I've asked what I could do to get another position there. Apparently they emailed the agency a week after the interview, two weeks ago I contacted the agency today and she was trying to chase it up and said the people recruiting were on holiday. She really hadn't seen the email. I've been trying not to hassle them as they said at least 2 weeks, but it is now getting towards 3 weeks. SarahJo
Sorry you did not get it choccy. I have done several tests, and been told different things. Sometimes it was because I was not a graduate ( they are not allowed to say that though! ) othertimes I felt my age, and career break to have kids offended them . I do know that they really like team players - also, occasionally a very focussed "analytical" person - who will do all the boring and laborious clinical trial material ( I would have prefered the pharmaceutical sales documents and speaker materials ). Unfortunately 2 ends of a spectrum - don't give up though - some of the high flyers in the more independant companies were rejected by the, big boys in medical communications . Chin up ...... xox
theherd123
Oh Chocy sorry you didnt get the job You know what?! Grab the chocolate and the wine and just think about how much they will be kicking themselves when they realised that they have missed out on working with such a fab person like you! Everything happens for a reason - they is a bigger, better and more well paid job just around the corner with your name on it!
Rona
So sorry you didn't get the job but as everyone has said, there is something better waiting round the corner. You must be feeling so disappointed now but just think that it would have been anyway and you have had a lucky escape. Have some wine and choccies as compensation. chocchick
I visited a similar company (look at me networking ) and they had more holidays (5 weeks ), better training, and I really liked the atmosphere. Would possibly have to wait until February though althought I did a writing test I've not heard about If I got that it would be ideal... I'm still waiting for feedback on my interview. The agency (lovely lady) got the email after 1 week, but thought it might not be for me due to the wording. She's been chasing the company ever since for feedback on the interview as they've been rubbish.
