dancing cloud
Aldi are getting in vax steam mops from Thursday at what looks like a good price and I'm seeking Omlet advice before splurging. https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/thursday-15-jan/product-detail/ps/p/vax-steam-mop/ We have a mix of tiled and laminate floors, mainly laminate. I don't know if the laminate is sealed or not and would not know how to tell - it wasn't cheap and it's been down many years, is all I know about it. Plenty has been spilled on it over the years and it still comes up as good as new when cleaned. With 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 people coming in and out of a very muddy garden, all the floors are constantly filthy and the good old mop-and-bucket is just a bit too much like hard work. Any recommendations? Definite do's or don't's to getting one? Many thanks in advance
Blackrocksrock
I bought one from Argos last autumn - I do not have laminate floors but it cleans lino really well - embarrasing to see what grime was left after washing with a mop - it is also able to be used as a hand held and is good value. mullethunter
I'd be interested in this too as the place we're buying has wood laminate floors of unknown quality that I'd like to get really clean before we move in (particularly because there are cats there now and I want to freak ours out as little as possible when they move in)
kinsk
I've got the H20 X5 steam mop and love it. With 3 dogs and one husband living on a pig farm my mop was fighting a loosing battle. You still have to hoover or brush up before hand, but you have to do that anyway with a mop. Mine is also a handheld steamer with lots of different attachments and is great in the kitchen and bathroom. Not sure how much the vax one is but mine was about £80, if it's purely just a floor mop I'd consider spending a bit more to get the versatility of a hand held. bluekarin
That's a good price. I have yet again been looking at getting a steam cleaner. Currently I am being swayed by the Shark one that's in Argos for about £70. I was originally looking at a Vax which is at about £50 in Argos but it has such mixed reviews I am not sure, and think it might be best to spend the extra £20 for one with all good reviews. Grandmashazzie
I got a Hoover steam mop recently, only choose it as I was exchanging club card vouchers from Tesco. It is great on tiles and so quick.I do kitchen every morning after I Hoover and it's dry in seconds.I was advised not to use it on laminated floors by a woman who came in to clean for me a few times, when I hurt my back. She recommended those e cloth mops for laminates. dancing cloud
Sounds like it would be great for tiled areas like kitchen and bathroom . Has anyone tried a steam mop on laminate floors? We have an e-cloth mop, but I was hoping to use this instead - one tool for everything.
HarrisonFamily
I bought a shark steam mop after recommendations on here, I use it on my vinyl floor and its great cleans and dries in minutes......
dancing cloud
Asked my dad and he is sure the laminate floors are not sealed, so we wouldn't be able to use a steam mop on them - big pity as there's so much laminate . He's interested in one for the tiled floors though, especially the kitchen as it gets most of the muddy feet. I showed him the pix of the Aldi one and mentioned happy steam-moppers here, and he's going to have a look when they get them in. He's usually the one that gets to do the mopping, so is all in favour of anything that will make his life easier !
bluekarin
I have finally bought myself a Shark 2 in 1 steam cleaner half price in the Argos sale. Just did a quick trial of it on the door seals of my dishwasher and it looks like new after just 5 minutes! Amazing It was quite grim before, so wasn't expecting it to shift it all. Needs a proper going over with the scrubber attachment as I just used the nozzle, and I think it will perfect. Can't wait to give it a go in my bathroom Then I'll be looking at everything and thinking "Can I steam clean that?" Heehee
dancing cloud
All you fault, bluekarin, I've just reserved one to pick up at lunchtime. Thanks for the 1/2 price tip Dad looked at the ones in Aldi and didn't see how they'd pick up all the dirt . Tried to get him to try one, but nothing doing . The Shark one has great reviews and I can always take it back if he really doesn't like it. Thought I'd get him to mop the muck off the kitchen floor and then put the steam mop over it, so he can see exactly what gets left behind and how much more steam brings off. I'll let you know how he gets on. Welcome to the steam age ...
