PixieDust
I am sure many of you have tried this. I am sprouting some wheat from the Pob's mixed corn. Nothing happened til today when I noticed they all had little shoots starting. Any advice on different foods to sprout or ways of growing it? mullethunter
I've sprouted the girls' mixed corn a few times. I use an old plastic tray that mushrooms come in from the supermarket. Cut a few slashes in so it drains, put the grain in and give it a really good wash with cold tap water, then put inside a freezer bag on the kitchen window sill. Rinse with fresh water morning and evening for 7 days and then feed to the girls on the 8th day when it's about three inches high. I've given up on it for now though because it wasn't as much of a success as I'd hoped it would be. The girls did eat some of the shoots, but they prefer grass pulled up from somewhere, and Shelley didn't like the shoots at all, only ate what was left of the grain. Your pobs may well be less fussy than my stupid lot though and love it
PixieDust
Thanks for sharing your experience. The only thing they have so far turned their noses up at is carrot. Whole or grated. Just not interested. Yet the go ding batty for carrot greens.
Eggshell
Mine really like sprouted seeds. So far I've done wheat, green lentils, fenugreek, alfalfa and cress. They eat it all.
Luvachicken
I might give it another try as I now have more new girls than old ones. The oldies definitely didn't like them
mullethunter
That's so funny Pixiedust because mine love whole carrots! After corn on the cob in think they're their favourite!
PixieDust
Mine adore carrot top greens, brussel sprouts, cauliflower leaves, beetroot leaves and seem quite keen on tomatoes. They love grass and can strip half a turf in a day! They just seem to love green stuff. They also love water with ACV and also garlic in. Unless they are sneezy and I give ACV for a week, they get a day's dose on a Monday and Thursday just to keep them ticking along. They always drink far more water on an ACV day. As well as sprouting seeds, I want to try them on a broccoli head.
mullethunter
Broccoli goes down very well with my girls - I think the stalk is actually their favourite bit. They will eat greens (cabbagey type stuff) in their run but aren't all that interested when they're out and about. They don't like sprouts though. Even in their run they leave them. They haven't had ACV. The only time I ever put anything in the water is if there's a heavy moult going on they have moulting tonic.
Old Speckled Hen
I'm just trying a parrot sprouting mix. It has all sorts in it. My lot get a whole grain diet which I'm going to try fermenting next. Has anybody else tried that?
PixieDust
I have heard of it but not sure how to do it. Would be interested to find out if anyone has experience of it.
