mimi5
So Martha and her chicks have been allowed by me today (having made the classic run like fort knox!!!!) to have their first outing from the classic. Adorable to see them with mum I had noticed her pecking her feet yesterday and thought "oh dear maybe a bit of scaley leg" Well I could see two small red sore areas, no bigger that a petite pois, but she was going for them intermittently So I had to do something!!!! She wouldn't dust bath while brooding and got scaley mite from her mum, who got it because I used straw the her hatching nest I couldn't have completely cleared it up, I do use the Nettex product monthly as a preventative. Anyway called my vets for advice......still waiting for a call back Looked in my chicken first aid cupboard. Had the Nettex septiclense (used it on Martha when she ripped off a claw 18 mths ago) So I rang Netex (they are great for advice I have called them before!!) Helpful advice straight away Sprayed Martha away from the chicks and allowed her legs to dry & she seems much happier, phew! Update: the vet finally called back, use the septiclense spray (didn't tell them I already had ) But will ask any suggestions??? She is still having a pop at her foot occasionally Thanks all
Purplemaniacs
No advice to offer but glad you got something sorted. Well done to Nettex for good advice. Chrissie
loumabel
Johnsons scaley leg ointment is fab but messy and Vaseline is a good if you have it in the cupboard. I think it suffocates the mites or something like that. I love your little ones, they are gorgeous, keep posting pics please!!!!
mimi5
Thanks purplemaniacs Hi Loumabel How are your babies doing......not so little now I bet!!! loumabel
Hi I have the same problem with the photos and no son to help me! My girls are doing really well, intros went well and they are all happily living together now. My old Wyandotte Eglantyne has completely lost control and is being terrorised by two excited little Favorelles. You can almost see her rolling her eyes in despair! I will try and load some pics up soon.

Lewis
Do you think the red sores are scaley leg mite or just from her pecking at them? If just pecking at them the septiclense should help stop her pecking them, if not as loumabel says the Scaley Leg Ointment is very good and I find easier to apply than the sprays. mimi5
Do you think the red sores are scaley leg mite or just from her pecking at them? A very good question! I'm not sure, I just assumed I think just from pecking as they definitely weren't sore before yesterday. I was lifting her off every morning while she was sitting But she wasn't going for them this morning before I left for work. I will check her when I get home.........going to worry about them all day I did wonder about sudocrem? But the chicks are still fluffy and I had visions of them stuck to her legs and feet
mullethunter
Sorry - I know it's a problem but that image is funny. Are her legs getting any better - do you think she's stopped pecking at them? And how are the littl'uns doing?
