Worming week guilt trips...!

Recommended Posts

Worming week for my five girls started on Sunday. Every time I go anywhere near their run, they are right up there, looking to see what treats I'm bringing them :( I hate not being able to give them even a piece of grass :(

Prior to worming week, I'd give my laying girls a little extra treat. There were 2 of them.

Typically- my other 3 have started laying since WW started  One on Sunday morning before I had even let them out of the house, one on Sunday afternoon and I think one laid her first today!

Talk about the ultimate guilt trip

They're on marriages pellets

But if I manage to get my hands on some flubenvet, I could give them a little treat? *looks hopefully*

Another silly question- if I can't source any flub powder in the shops, can I use verm-ex on or in treats instead?

As I understand it Verm-ex doesn't actually kill worms so probably not.

Hard as it is, It's only seven days so I'd stick to no treats. I think the idea is that any worms in the system have to ingest Flubanvet pellets as that's all there is, and therefore are killed. If you feed other things it's possible the worms can take in non-medicated nutrition and not be eradicated so successfully.

Verm-X is only a herbal remedie. It's like trying to combat an infection by slinging bags of herbal tea against your head. Doesn't do any harm, but doesn't make you feel better either...

I'm interested in the specific workings of flubenvet. If it only works because the worms don't get any other nutrition it won't be of any use to feed them other stuff. But if they just need a specific dose per day, could you also give it with the treats?

I was wondering if I could just mix it in with their daily corn? I've read somewhere that people give it on halved grapes.

Thank you folks :) I guess I was kind of hoping that I'd be able to find a way of getting at least some greens into them as I feel horrible not giving them any at all.

Next time, it will be either pellets with minimal powdered treats or just powder. You live and learn, eh?! :)

The advice from the manufacturer is to giev it mixed into the pellets as prescribed, so that the level of medication over the day is constant, much as your own medication often has to be taken 4 times a day.

The guilt trip just got massive...

I've just used one of the first eggs from Sunday to make a cake, and it was a double yoker!!:dance:

I had no idea that was going to happen, it weighed 55g. Makes me wonder what the other, bigger ones contain!
