Does anyone have any recommendations of nail clippers to buy?

We were using an old pair we had lying around, which have now disappeared, and looking on Amazon i can see numerous different contraptions, just not sure what i should be buying.

Used just an ordinary pair of cat clippers. But be aware! You can only take off the very tip, else it will bleed like hell!

I have never clipped my chickens nails. They look ok to me, do you do this on a regular basis?

Only did it once, and not likely to do it again...

Cinnamon has an awkward walk at times and a few of her nails looked long in comparison to the others. Wanted to give it a go and see if it was down to too long nails. It wasn't a pleasant experience for me or Cinnamon...

Generally, you shouldn't need to cip their claws unless they are ex-batts with no way to grind them down, or if the bird has a crokked toe, which prevents the usual wear. Oh, or if they are show birds, and kept on deep litter.

We've clipped them before, and know not to go too far!

They have access to a hard standing, i.e. our patio, but they aren't on this all day every day... their pen was grass so now it's soil, so it's pretty soft.

I've never clipped mine, although one of my girls ripped one off running up the garden path and there's a good deal of blood. The nails do curl round a bit and don't cause problems if they're out and about.

I would use something like these dog nail clippers in the Omlet shop.

 

I often get asked to clip friends' small furries nails and as others have said, only take off the tip and be careful of the quick

I have those for the dogs, Lewis, and they are the best in my opinion.

 

Next door has a house cat, not sure why it doesn't go out, but its claws get long and catch on their carpet. They don't like trimming them, so ask me to do it. She's a sweet thing, and doesn't mind at all.

I cut the nails of my own cat and my moms cat weekly.

My own cat doesn't really get out much and can't jump or climb anyway. My moms cat will jump on anything and everyone, so to keep my mom and her clothes safe, I take the tips off. If you start doing it from early on, they don't mind at all.
