Its my party......

Recommended Posts

... well actually it was OH's 60th at weekend and we had a lovely time. We prayed weather would be good and it wasnt bad. We had the usual mishaps but otherwise was lovely about 20 people - all friends - no family as my elderly relies are not party types and I think either I was adopted or am a mutant and OH's family well his brother is also not a party type. His other brother and him dont really get on.

Anyway

1 set table in garden only to find our cat sitting on it so I spaced packs of Pringles on it to stop this appalling behaviour.

2 when party was in full swing my friend said "is he supposed to be on there?" my first thought was OH was being naughty only to find the other cat eating peanuts from the bowl on the table. The funny thing was I have 5 dishes which spell PARTY and he was eating from the P bowl - or as I said " hes taking the P" My friend thought it hilarious as shes the owner of a gatecrashing picnic dog who blasts his way thro peoples picnics on Hampstead Heath.

3 as evening wore on and we all got squiffy we were plagued by flying ants.

4 had to distribute wraps and scarves to friends who were in summer tops as temp dropped.

But no tears - just fun and now planning his 70th - 80's disco theme I think fancy dress and I will be 63 so visions of an elderly Madonna - probably not

Oh I do love a good party - lets hear your good and bad ones please.

I love a family party, once a year I and my four siblings (all now in their sixties except me) gather together with offspring and grandchildren, immediate family now numbers around 24 when partners are included. We are definitely a party family.

I well recall the year when it was a miserable summer, my brother insisted that we'd be eating outdoors and was barricading the sides of the gazebo with hardboard as we sat shivering in our fleeces, hoping someone would be brave enough to rebel and take their dinner indoors. One of my nieces had a play tent for her toddler, and suddenly everyone wanted to hide in there and play with the babies! We're doing it again in August, can't wait. I've volunteered to do 'science' experiments with the little''uns.

Sounds like a lot of fun.:lol::lol:

Here I'm not a party person. But for the last few years my neighbour has hosted a Christmas fun evening with our nice neighbours and we all chip in and bring food and drink. We've had casino night a couple of times when the elderly neighbour was grabbing everybody elses chips on the roulette winnings and was oblivious to what she was doing. Poor thing - we had a good laugh there. Another one did a better job than a Dyson and hoovered up the food because we'd all done different things and he said cor these are loooooooooooovely! So we laughed at him too! I suppose he was the equivalent of a labrador!

Funniest times were the murder mysteries. They laughed at me because I did different voices each time and a little improvising. Slight inebriation helped I guess! Not something I would have liked when I was younger, but these were fun.

We are bikers and ever since we moved to the wilds of the Lincolnshire countryside we hold a reunion party for all our biker friends from Wakefield and Barnsley. They come from Friday to Sunday and we have a great time with lots of food and games. Usually someone ends up in our lake too. On the Saturday evening we have fancy dress. The first year we were at our new house the theme was "pirates" 30 plus bikers of all ages and sizes were dressed as pirates and we paraded down the two roads which make up our village demanding rum at the neighbours gates and singing songs from the "Pirates of Penzance" All the neighbours took it in good part and joined in and now every year they want to know what the theme is and when they are all coming. This year the theme is I'm a Celebrity get me out of here so I am busy devising bushtucker trials and challenges. The edible insects are on order and the outfits acquired. Just need to put up the outdoor shower for the Myleene Klass wannabees, which I am reliably informed are some of the gentlemen. I shall not be wearing a white bikini!

Ooh newcountrygirl, that sounds great - I'd forgotten the New Year parties we used to have with a bunch of friends. One of those had a game show theme, and the 'Strictly' event was memorable. A friend and I did something based on 'I'm a Celebrity', I can't remember all the details now but I know it involved some revolting (but edible) combinations like yoghurt and tinned mushrooms, and blindfolded contestants having to retrieve coins from a bucket of cold porridge ... you have to try this to know just how disgusting that feels, they didn't see the porridge before the blindfolds went on, I think they were told it was swamp mud or something.

Your party sounds wonderful, I hope you have a great time.

Cats tails thats why I named it that. Thankfully no tears just laughs and even OH who isnt a party animal said he'd remember it forever, that nearly did make me cry. The music got switched off as I "mum dance" and no one could hear themselves speak let alone anyone else - being slightly deaf I like my muzac loud  Newcountrygirl sounds wonderful. An old school friend was a biker - her boyfriend was lovely -leathers goatee and impacable manners - I still remember him perched on my mums sofa a china cup of tea in his hand  Oh I do lovely a party - as I said planning his 70th - be my 60th first.

On a sad note OH and I lost our mums before one reached 50 and the other 60 so I firmly believe life is for partying - dont wish to put a downer on the thread but reminded him of this when he moaned about it. I could see him thinking about it and he agreed.
