mullethunter
This morning the girls woke me up shouting at 06:10. I went to check them and everything was OK but there was yolk on the roosting bars. This evening I don't think Penny looks right. She's keeping herself to herself more than normal and it could be my imagination but I think she's got her tail down and is more upright than normal. Could she be eggbound and could the yolk be to do with that? If so what should I do? She's very difficult to catch. Really worried because everything says being eggbound can kill quickly
mollyripkim
I'm not really sure but didn't want to read and run. Do you think she may have laid a softie and the others have eaten it, although aren't they supposed to perk up once it's laid? Hope she is ok? mullethunter
Thanks Mollyripkim. I've been out and cleared out and had a good look at all the girls. Whatever was ailing Penny was something fleeting, the yolk was Bernie. She has 'off days' which the vet suspected might be ovulation pain. She's looking like that again and the feathers around her vent are mucky. Surprising after she's just been broody. Or maybe she was poorly and not broody - I'm doubting myself now. It could have been a softy I suppose, there was some white mixed in with the yolk under the roosting bars. Don't know what to think
mullethunter
Actually come to think of it no-one has laid since Monday. I wonder if something could've upset them?
mollyripkim
They are a worry sometimes are they, I am currently struggling to diet a chicken, she is apparently so overweight that her lungs are compromised. Maybe being broody took it out of her a bit, could you give them some tonic?
mullethunter
That's a good idea. I've got some avipro, I'll give them that for a day or two.
