Ain't Nobody Here
We're off to Athens for a few days in October (Sun-Thurs) and if we manage to get round all the sights in the first few days (I have a carefully planned itinerary and we walk very fast with no dawdling so it might be possible!) I'm thinking a day trip to an island might be nice. Would you recommend Hydra or Aegina? Both look lovely but Omlet personal experiences might help me choose . Cinnamon
How lovely! I haven't been to either, but in my opinion you really can't go wrong with a Greek island. Word of warning though - we were in Skiathos last week & planned a day trip to Skopelos to see the mama Mia church, but the wind picked up in minutes, causing VERY story seas & marble sized hail, so we couldn't go Mykonos is near ish to the mainland & is lovely, I do know (Shirley Valentine island!) Daphne
I've been to both, but about 15 years ago. Hydra was perfect, tiny, quiet, unspoilt and Aegina was larger, more developed, more to see and do. I preferred Hydra, a jewel. We noticed the boat brought over a flood of Athenians for the Sunday, to drink coffee, lounge about in big coats (it was November) and even bigger sunglasses, and people watch. Back then, there were no cars, just donkeys to lug stuff about. Not sure about now. It might be the perfect antidote to Athens
Alis girls
Honeymooned in Aegina. It is more lively but beautiful and lots of old ruins etc to see! But that was 22 yrs ago. Enjoy. Ali x
Janepie33
We also went to Hydra years and years ago. That one would get my vote.
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks everyone! I think we'll be ready for some relaxation after rushing round Athens so Hydra does sound more appealing.

Ain't Nobody Here
Ajax, too, I believe . I'm back to considering Aegina, half the travelling time and half the cost!
Mrs Webmuppet
I would recommend Agistri. It's next door to Aegina . Much smaller, it's only 1mile by2miles. There's a beautiful church, pine forest and a lovely beach at the end of the walk through the forest (if you don't mind a bit of a climb) . The bakery sells delicious goodies too. The Webmuppets have spent several holidays on the island.
