Luvachicken
Cool warmer temperatures are coming at the end of the week - not sure about The Netherlands though - so we could be in for some eggs soon. My egg count for January so far is

Luvachicken
I got a lovely surprise when I checked the egg port today A lovely bigger egg from either Polly or Tilly - I would have thought Polly as Tilly hasn't quite finished refeathering. Just typical as we bought a dozen eggs from the farm near my Mum's yesterday but very much wanted, the Polly egg I mean.

Ursula123
Had a lovely surprise this afternoon, one of my little Pekin bantams had laid a little egg, they are so tiny compared to my hybrids. I have had them since December and have been waiting patiently.
Luvachicken
Yes pekin eggs are small aren't they But they are delicious. If you want to make cakes with them just weigh the eggs you want and then add the same weight of the other ingredients.
mullethunter
Bernadette is moulting her upper neck feathers - today I went to stroke her and scratch off some of the feather cases - and she squatted Hopefully eggs soon (Amy has had very red head gear for weeks now but no sign of an egg - although this maybe just because she absolutely hates egg laying!) Ursula123
Fingers crossed for eggs for you soon mullethunter. My exchequer leghorn squatted for the first time yesterday so hoping for a white egg very soon. My little Pekin egg is too precious for a cake luvachicken, usually I give any double Yolkers to OH but this one is all mine.
Ursula123
exchequer laid a white egg today Two new layers in one week. Had my bantam egg for breakfast it is perfect for me as it had a lovely big golden yolk and not much white, ( not too keen on the White )
Luvachicken
The farm eggs my Mum got me were massive but when I cracked them they had the same size yolk as my pekins. I do love my pekin eggs once they finally get going and my pekins are perfect too
mullethunter
Pekin eggs are really good for chocolate mug cakes (which may or may not be a good thing!)
mullethunter
Well, I got one, but I can't be too happy about it. Little Bern has been squatting for about a week now, so I knew something was imminent. Then yesterday evening she was REALLY poorly. Standing looking sad and sleepy and couldn't really walk properly. I made sure she had some mealworms and was tucked up amongst the others when they went to bed, and hoped for better things in the morning. Anyway, this morning she was back to her normal self when I opened the door and they all came tumbling out - and there on the roosting bars under where Bernie had been sleeping was a soft shelled egg. I scrambled it and gave it back to them. Hopefully better things to come!
Luvachicken
Awwww, no wonder she felt a bit under the weather Mullethunter. Hope she's feeling a lot better today and enjoying the sunshine BTW I got 2 eggs yesterday
mullethunter
A strange thing has happened... Came home at lunch time and let the girls out for an hour. Bernie stayed in the nest really as if she needed to lay. Amy kept going in and trying to turf her out (actually made poor little Bern's comb bleed), but she always does that just to show who's boss. When we got home later, Bernie was still in there, but came out as soon as she heard me. When I looked in there was another egg! Proper she'll this time and a lot bigger and slightly darker than a Bernadette egg would normally be. Actually looked more like an Amy egg. So, would they ever lay a soft (actually it was just very thin) shelled egg and then a normal one just a few hours later? Or is it Amy's (first one of the year - she does have very red comb and wattles and yellow legs - never squats) and Bernie was just keeping it warm for her? Glad you're getting regular eggs now luvachicken
Luvachicken
Polly and Lucie never squat either but the others do I think it could be possible to lay a softy and then lay a proper egg later but I'm not entirely certain. Lets hope the softy was a one off and she is back to normal. My eggs are mostly every other day but they are delicious. Tilly and Gemma often pop in to check on the others progress, they remind me of midwives
Cat tails
Ok so I got an egg today. Think it was Ginger who produced this pretty thing. But..... I have just wormed them this week! With Ivermectin. Just my luck...
Luvachicken
That's really not fair Cat tails Could you not use Flubenvet instead ?
Cat tails
Flubenvet is not sold in the Netherlands. And decided to worm them as they aren't really eating their pellets lately. So probably wouldn't eat medicated pellets either. This is just the spot on treatment of the vet. Oh well there will be more eggs
