Chucky Mama
We have had a confirmed death in our area (Wiltshire) and 4 further surviving cases. Here is an information sheet for those of you that don't know anything about the disease. Thankfully it is rare but sounds like it could be an emerging disease. If it is not in your area yet, it is something that could get overlooked so be vigilant. Alabama Rot
dancing cloud
Thanks for the warning - something to be aware of. Sounds very nasty
mollyripkim
Thanks for the warning, think it is good to be aware. I live on the edge of the New Forest so vets are very aware here and there seem to have been pockets of cases where dogs have been walked in a certain area so I tend to avoid those now. One local vet reported treating 11 cases last year and of those only one died, mainly because owners are aware and get their dogs to the vet quickly. Slightly embarrassingly I took my dachshund in a panic as she developed a sore area on her tummy - eczema - better safe than sorry though. The Dogmother
Always best to be safe. Mine hunt far and wide so I am always careful to check them over. There were a couple of cases a while back, near Stratford, in fields where we often walk alongside the river. I avoided it for a few months. Thanks for the warning CM
bluekarin
We had a flat coated retriever die from it after being walked on Little Durnford, which is a small village in Wiltshire between Salisbury and Amesbury It is very worrying as the river from there runs right through where I walk my dog. Keeping a closer eye on her even more so now.
Luvachicken
This was on our local news a couple of days ago - for somewhere near the New Forest. Even though I don't have a dog at the moment it is something to know about for later.
