Millie-Annie
Does anyone else have a confused pecking order? I couldn't tell you who is my top hen. Clara my Brahma is scared of Octavia my Orpington but not scared of the ex-batts Octavia is scared of the ex-batts but not of Clara The ex-batts are scared of Clara but not of Octavia When I say scared I mean if they are pecking food they will move away or risk a swift peck. Thankfully I don't have a bullying problem, they all muddle along. I just have a horrendous feather pecking problem with the ex-batts but bumpa bits have cured that
Beantree
Sounds like you still have two distinct flocks Millie-Annie. There will be two top hens, Octavia and one of the ex-batts, but I guess all will settle down during the laying period and then get all confused again when the moulting starts and the pecking orders change temporarily! Aren't they little darlings.
Luvachicken
Funny that. Gemma is definitely my top hen, followed by Polly and then Zoe is bottom. Yesterday I gave them some live mealworms and Polly went to steal one off Gemma and was swiftly told off but then Zoe stole one off Gemma and that was OK
Millie-Annie
I definitely have two distinct flocks. The two ex-batts, who I cant tell apart and Octavia and Clara. I have never had such a bonded pair as O and C. The other day they got separated in the building of the extended run and they both worry and whittle until they are reunited. I dread losing one of them. The ex-batts stick together, but the borstal babes always do
