Paypal question

Some help please.... I needed to send a refund to someone who purchased an item from me on ebay (she asked tons of questions beforehand and I knew she'd be trouble..... then decided that she didn't want it!).

 

I went to PayPal to send a refund, there weren't sufficient funds in my Paypal account, and I assumed that it would automatically take the necessary funds from my debit card which is linked to the account. However, PayPal required me to link a bank account with my PayPal account to effect the refund. I did this and put the refund through (on Saturday) and then 'uncoupled' my bank account, but received an email from both Ebay and Paypal today saying that they couldn't put the refund through... I am assuming that this is because I have taken my bank account off again.

 

Having never done this before, my question is whether it will now go through if I repeat the process and then leave the link with my bank account in place for a couple of days. I am assuming that the problem arose because I put the transaction through over a weekend, when the banks wouldn't have been open.

 

Any ideas or experience with this?

I think you jumped the gun removing the link the funds probably wont go out until stupid o clock tonight or tomorrow night but might show up as not been available today depending on how PP work then it could be 2 or 3 days before the other party get the funds depending on their bank

I have stuff listed at the moment (only because it was max £1 final fees this past weekend!) and have just had someone wanting to know every possible measurement on a Seasalt dress. I really hope she doesn't buy it! When I sell things (rare now - I only list things £10 or over as otherwise its not worth the final fees/Paypal cost/postage!) I can never 'relax' until I have had feedback and I know it's arrived and that they are happy.

I list all my items now with a warning that it’s a second hand item and listed as such. I photograph and describe items carefully and don’t except returns or offer refunds. So far this has helped. I got fed up with time wasters especially on electrical items which left us in perfect working order and mysteriously developed faults on delivery. I now sell everything electrical with a warning that although working when dispatched no guarantees are given or I list them as untested.

Funnily enough I had my first ever item returned to sender today. It was a shirt that I had posted in January to a flat in London and I suspect it had been taken back to the sorting office with a card left and they hadn’t got around to collecting it. I’ve received no complaints so not sure what to do with it now. Can’t see the buyer being happy to pay further postage.

You can block buyers and bidders by adding their username onto your block list, then they can't bid or buy. Just google for ebay block bidders and you'll find help pages on ebay to show you how to do it.

That's interesting..... I was wondering if I could block her!

 

Oh well, is all sorted now and she's kindly left me negative feedback, which is delightful since I went out of my way to answer all her questions... which were in the listing if she had bothered to read it! Then accepted her return and refunded, because I just couldn't be bothered with her.

I think that you can challenge this with E Bay and have it removed if you can show that it is unfair/you have answered all her questions. Might be worth looking into...or you can reply to her feedback so that your comments show up as an appendage to hers when people check your scores.

Good question, DM! Luckily I have never had to go down that route but I do check out feedback from sellers if they have something that I am interested in and they have a low score. When you click on the negative number it shows you their feedback and, in some cases, the seller has added a comment thereafter (generally to the effect that they did all they could and the buyer was still a pain :lol: )

 

Quite how you go about this I'm not sure but there must be some info buried deep in the E Bay system! You can contact them by webchat - I had a sale about 3 years ago where I listed and sold a Molton Brown Travel Set of 4 bottles. In spite of me saying 'travel size' and noting the mls both in words and pictures I had a nasty e mail from the buyer saying that, as it was not as she had expected, I HAD to refund her (am taking a punt that she didn't read the listing properly and thought she was getting 4 brand new full size bottles of Molton Brown for £20 and free postage :wall::roll: )

 

I had a webchat with an E Bay agent who was able to look at the original listing and confirmed that the buyer was incorrect and unreasonable. The agent said therefore that, if the buyer left neg feedback, I could have it removed. Sounds very similar to your current situation. When/if you contact E Bay you will need to have your transaction/item number to hand so that they can look it up. Apparently they can then see both the listing and all correspondence relating to it so it will be obvious that this madam is playing games and the neg is unjustified.

Generally, as in life if they feel like trouble then they will be! What is going on with non paying buyers too? eBay say you can report them but they don’t actually do anything. I had some cheeky bint win a river island leather jacket for £38.00 then email to say “could I pay Friday when I get paid?” I said fine and I haven’t heard anything since. This has happened a couple of time and it’s so frustrating!

DM, can I just ask, this woman basically changed her mind and you've refunded her, now she has left negative feedback?

 

As a private seller you are not obliged to offer change of mind returns unless the item is damaged or significantly not as described. You can tick a box on the listing to show this.

 

Unless she mentioned bad feedback in any mesages to you, or said anything in the feedback that ebay don't allow, they will let it stand as it is the customer's experience. In that case just reply to it and say she is unreasonable, or someting along those lines.

 

You can report buyers, ebay do look at patterns of behaviour from buyers and sellers when reported. As you can no longer leave negatives for buyers, this is something to consider.

 

You can change your settings on your account so that ebay open a non paying bidder case after as little as 2 days, then they get a mark on their account for non payment, again, buyers get flags on their account for these.

Yes, that is more or less the case; she asked tons of questions about the jumper, which I answered, despite them already being covered by the listing. I could tell by this stage that she was going to be a waste of time and either not bid, or create issues once she purchased.

 

She then messaged requesting a refund/return as the item wasn't as listed - the size was wrong (I had listed with label size as well as measurements and shown it on a size 10 mannequin in the photos) also that the mend was visible in use... the item was a polo neck jumper with a teeny mend on the neck which didn't show in use. I had taken photos of this and listed it, but it was nigh on invisible and I said that. So, she had all the facts, but obviously decided that she didn't want it.

 

The member requested a refund before she returned the item, which I sensibly declined and said that I would refund once the item had been received back. I had sent her return postage cost up front just to shut her up. She then messaged me asking why I hadn't refunded (the item hadn't got back yet). I refunded as soon as the jumper got back to me.

 

She still left negative feedback

 

I have reported it to ebay to no avail, but I did reply to her feedback as Soapy suggested - they don't give you many characters to use!

 

TBH, I have written it off as a bad deal and one of those things. the only other occasion I have had less than 100% positive feedback was when I listed and sold a waterproof, which Rosie had spirited off to uni in the interim(!!!) I had messaged the lady and refunded as soon as I realised, but she left me negative feedback, which was her prerogative.

 

My listings do state NO RETURNS, but they have you by the short and curlies if you don't accept it back and they leave bad feedback. :roll:

Ha! Great minds think alike! Those are the ones that I gave her! I also referred her to the Seasalt website as they have a size chart on there too.

 

Up to 26 watchers and no bids with 1 d 17 hours to go....I hate that 'waiting for a bid' bit; it's like having people round to eat .... the last few minutes after you have finished plumping cushions and before the doorbell rings :lol:

I did try a few bits and bobs on BIN in the run up to Christmas and several went. However, I often feel that I may over or underprice things so think that the auction option lets things find their own levels. Also, if I list auction then I know when things will finish and time that so that I can pack and get to the post office quickly.

 

I don't sell nearly as much now as I used to; all the boy's outgrown clothes used to get listed but, with the rise in postage and charge on postage by E Bay, final fee and Paypal charge I only list things £10 or more as I don't feel its worth the hassle. I also list with free postage but build in a margin for that - really annoys me that E Bay now charge their percentage on that.
