kissinuk
I've just been offered 2 POL Scots Dumpy's for our eglu which arrives next week. Does anyone know if these are too big for an Eglu (they are listed as 'heavy' on the Omlet guide)? If we were also to get a gingernut from Omlet do you think they would get on together? I was going to get a gingernut & Pepperpot, but Omlet seem to be out of the latter so I'm trying to find local alternatives (Northants). Paul. Helen&Lee
I can't really help you as to whether you could fit the three in the eglu, we have a cube My book does say they are a docile bird though, so I imagine they would get on fine with a Gingernut Ranger. It says the weight of a large female is approx 6lb and they are good layers Hope this helps slightly - I know there will be someone along who will be able to offer the answers to your questions. Mel (& Paul)
Its not so much the size of the eglu as the size of the run. We have managed to get 8 "medium" chickens in one eglu at night but I wouldnt keep 4 medium in the normal run all the time. I have never heard of Scot Dumpies - but what a wonderful name
chocchick
They're, can't think of the right word endangered, low in number? I've never seen one, there were some at a show, but they were hiding in the house Have you tried the feathersite for pictures? here http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Dumpy/BRKDumpy.html
The Pearsons
I have Scots Dumpys but I think they were crossed with something else way back. They are very docile and loving and big.... but they squash up together at night - they do like plenty of room to forage though. My Toast and Chips are the cuckoo coloured type and the longer legged variety. Just PM me or ask any other questions you need. Oh, and have a look at my website!!!!
