patsylabrador
We like other people's celebrations and like to do something on that day if we can. If not we do something in the spirit of that celebration. So because we're not Scottish we thought we would have a Tolkein's Night instead. We couldn't do anything on the 3rd which is his birthday because of work and stuff. So on Saturday we're going to have an evening with Hobbit style food, pies and beer and stuff. We're quite geeky and have a Lord of the Rings boardgame. It's quite daft really but can also be quite fun.
ajm200
Have a good time. Sometimes staying in with good company, good food and a decent board game is more fun than going out and far kinder to the bank balance too

I hope you're going to have a second breakfast too! 😁 I actually love having multiple breakfast dishes, like some toast early on, or a fruit shake and eggs and bacon or kedgeree or something like that a bit later! Apparently hobbits have 6 or 7 meals a day! x

If I were eating 6 or 7 meals a day I'd look (even more!) like an Orc! I usually get a McSween's haggis and have that with lots of tatties and neeps (and try not to think about what is in it - it is so yummy) and have a glass (or three) of malt! My Dad's side of the family are Jockinese and so is my BIL. He uses lots of wonderful Scottish words like 'piece' (his sandwich) and refers to my nephew as ' a clarty wee imp'.
patsylabrador
Redhotchick, every now and again we have LOTR or Hobbit marathon days when we watch the three films of either story. I bought a Hobbit recipe book for those days. We start off full of enthusiasm but usually by lunchtime we don't want to eat any more. Patricia W
I think that’s a fantastic idea! I went to the Tolkien drawings exhibition in Oxford last year. It was magical.

I didn't read about that until it was too late and would have loved to have gone - esp as it's only 20 mins away; grr! 1
redhotchick
A hobbit recipe book! I will have to Google that! My appetite is rubbish. OH took me out for a special meal before Christmas. it was multi courses, by the time it got to the main I was too full to eat it. I would have been happy to stop after the canapes! On a Sunday we sometimes break the courses up over the day, do we might have a starter at 1, dinner at 2, dessert at 6, and cheese at 8, or something like that! I like the idea of a hobbit day, but each meal would have to be small. I'm sure I could manage 7 small meals.

Popular Post Valkyrie
It was my dad's birthday so celebrations were always happening - nearly didn't one year with the hurricane gusts, but it died down and over we went in the evening. He liked writing "poetry" and called himself Sideburns. Here is one of his little rhymes: Once while walking through a wood, I picked bluebells by the score. Then I was fined for trespassing I won't go there any more! I did put "poetry" in inverted commas! There are worse ones but children love the rude ones (well anything with a toilet included set them off laughing - and as I have never grown up - I did too). Although I do rather like Of Mice and Men. 1 1
ajm200
That’s that sort of rhyme that my late Dad would have come up with. He taught me so many ‘naughty’ rhymes from his childhood. Not really rude but shocking enough to make a kid giggle
