more pics and news of Poet's girls...

Recommended Posts

I'll have to be quick as my net connection has been up and down all day!

DH finished the outside run just before the heavens opened. I know it's not as posh or big as some of yours but it's the best we cn do with the space we have and I think they'll like it. I hope so!

Maud had to be confined in there (twice) so the others could actually get something to eat.

A few of them have been in and out of it but not stayed for long. I'm sure they'll use it more t'row.

DH put a seed tray in there which he's been growing grass in and Maud had a nibble at it.

Fatima enjoyed s"Ooops, word censored!"ing the bark away, looking for insects presumably?

More news anon... :D

p.s. DH is in the process of painting the fence, it looks horrible at the moment so pls ignore it :D

oh and pps, we got 4 eggs altogether today so we had 2 poached eggs on toast for lunch each!!!! :D:D

before we got the girls..

me "we're getting the chickens so we'll have fresh eggs and also to rescue them from the battery cages, they're not pets but I'm sure I'll be fond of them"

within 24 hours of becoming a chicken mummy...

this is just in the last 5 minutes...

me "oh my god it's raining, I hope the noise of the rain isn't frightening them. Ian, just go out and see if you can hear anything. Ian, just go out and make sure everything's ok. Do you think they're warm enough? Are you sure they won't get wet? Are you sure the next boxes and run are locked? Do you think they'll be okay/warm enough/dry enough etc etc"

:roll::shock::lol:

It's a lovely run. You were obviously much more prepared for the arrival of your chickens than I was!! My GNR GNR have only just got a proper site for their (blue eglu) last week and they've been here for a month.

I'm sure your girls must be over the moon.

Know what you mean about fussing over them, I was a nervous wreck the first time mine got rained on!!

the run's lovely - I saw your earlier pictures of just the wooden coop/run and without chickens in it it looked much smaller but it's enormous especially with the extra run attached, really nice what lucky girls you have!

I was just thinking that it looked a lot bigger than i remembered. Your OH is a superstar Poet - that looks lovely and I'm sure that the girlies appreciate it... almost as much as they appreciate being free, happy hens :D

thanks everyone- I let them out at about 7.15am this morning, here's some pics of Maud the marauder (who already has an ASBO!) enjoying the fresh air! I sat and had my breakfast in the conservatory and watched them take their morning constitutional- 2 eggs so far today :D

here's some pics of Maud, posing for the camera- she's the boss and the first to do anything new, she's eaten some grass already.
