Egluntyne
There have been 2 shooting incidents in Sheffield the last 24 hours....one fatal....a sixteen year old boy. Information is vague...there is a suggestion that the incidents may be connected, and armed police are openly patrolling the Burgreave area.....very unusual in the UK. What a world we live in. Looney
I saw something briefly on the news about one of the shootings in Sheffield. I hear people saying they have guns to protect themselves but I doubt that many people that carry a gun have really linked the "gangster" style protection they think they are getting with the reality that guns really do kill people. I don't think I explained that very well, it's hard to put into words (brain not working!)...I guess what I mean is do people really understand actions = consequences? Tessa the Duchess
It's scary. There have been 17 fatal shootings or stabbings in London over the past year, all young people around 16/18, what a waste of a young life. Quite recently the police set up a unit at Brixton tube station (a notoriously heavy area of London) to search every young person exiting the station for drugs. They found plenty of drugs but apparently over half the people searched were carrying knives, they all said, when questioned, that they were carrying them for their own protection. I have no idea what the answer is to this awful violent society we seem to have created. Tessa

I work close to Woolwich and just recently there have been so many violent crimes in the area it's horrifying . And I'm Mum to a 16 year old boy (well, he will be next month anyway ) and sometimes quite honestly it worries the life out of me, he's a good boy, but all it takes is to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. What is going on in our society these days when life appears to have such a low value
theherd123
What is going on in our society these days when life appears to have such a low value One of my ex-students (who belonged to a gang) once told me that death was an occupational hazard. I just didnt know what to say to that!
Karen & co.
That's such a dreadful thing for a young person to think I'm sure they don't realise that being dead is forever, and the impact on those left behind is huge karen x

Tessa the Duchess
Kate A...I really sympathise with your fears for your young son, having teenagers is difficult enough without this added nightmare to worry about. I wonder if this whole gang culture thing is worse in big cities I have always said that the day I feel scared to walk by myself in the street when it's dark is the day I nail up a For Sale sign on the house and move me, and my nearest and dearest to the countreeee Hmmm could have a bigger garden for more chickens Tessa
