SazDav
We got our ladies from a local poultry farmer and are trying to find out for definate what type they are. We were told that Mrs Weasley was a maran cuvre. CeCe is aparently a 'partridge brown' but i can't seem to find a mention of that breed in any books or forums, it seems to be more a description of her colour. Any ideas? (her picture is on the left) Thanks Sarah

Guest
sorry for hijacking your thread but what sort of breed are ex-batts? 2 of my girls seem slightly bigger and darker than the other 2 which seem more gingery-that could be because the smaller 2 are more featherless though. anyway, here's some pics, would love to know. Hope you don't mind me barging in
The Dogmother
I don't think they're darker Poet, just that they have more top feathers. Chooks can vary their coliur slightly from one moult to another - my Dolly is sporting a much darker winter collection this year.

Cinnamon
Cotswold Chickens have a Partridge Amber on their site, which I swear was called a Partridge Brown a couple of weeks ago............. Looks very pretty either way http://www.cotswoldchickens.com/breeds.htm
The Dogmother
do you know what breed they are Clare? I don't Poet - most battery hens are RIR crosses with something or another - they all look more or less the same. Different breeders will call them different names though. I just call them 'Brown Jobs' ! Buffie may have an idea of what breed they could be crossed with.

feemcg
Most 'brown jobs' (as Clare said ) are Isa Browns, Lohmann Browns and Bovans Goldline - all bred for their prolific laying ability (then crammed into cages ).

buffie
Yes I believe ex batts are RIR and light sussex hybrids.
