nicki9
Well, we couldn't resist, the minute the eglu was sold we were off to the chicken shop! We've now added to our collection a skyline (Lucy) - so cute, a light sussex (Sunday) - beautiful, and a maran cuivree (Spice) - feisty and tiny at the mo. Tikka and Balti were none to impressed with the new arrivals , particularly as we chucked them into the garden so the new arrivals could go in the run. However, they are all tucked up on the perches together now, so we'll see how tomorrow goes! I'll post some pics as soon as I can get out in the daylight with a camera! nicki9
The noise! We've just let them out! Think they may have woken the neighbours! Lets hope Tikka and Balti establish their authority quickly! Here goes for an interesting day!

ChookieCaz
We have also got a couple more hens. They arrived last week with the cube; Henrietta and Lizzie remained in the Eglu. During the week, I put my hand partway through the Cube run with grain in my palm. All four ladies then had an opportunity to eat together. There was a little pecking, but not much and as Pepper and Rosie were in their own run, were able to escape. Yesterday, the two young ones were let out in the garden for a little while, put back and the older ones came out again until bed-time. This evening, the older ones were out and we let the young ones also into the garden. Susie and I went armed with sunflower seeds and corn (grain). I was hoping to distract them with treats to reduce pecking. We also watched them as they free-ranged, but a couple of times, Henrietta went for Pepper first, then later, Rosie. Around 6 pm, Susie and I managed to get Henrietta and Lizzie out of their Eglu, we squirted all four hens with a mixture of vinegar and water, as suggested by one of the men from Omlet and they are all in the Cube. However, Henrietta is the only one who isn't in the nesting-box. Hope they are alright tonight. Also it is freezing out, so I hope they are not too cold and wet from the spray! I didn't realize it was so cold until after we had posted the older ladies through the egg-port. Hope all your ladies are getting on well tomorrow, Nicki, with not too much hen-pecking.
