Hevvur
I was just wondering how many greens, and how often is ok for rabbits? Our rabbits are all on the patio now -the grass is too wet, and easy to dig! They get fed pellets and veg, but I was wondering how much veg they should be having? Chickybaby
My rabbit has about 2 big leaves of greens a day or a couple of handfuls of curly kale plus a carrot. I feed her the same amount throughout the year even when she's been eating grass. I think a lot depends on the individual animal though, too many greens can give them diarrhoea. The Dogmother
About 25% of their daily feed should be greens - curly kale is a favourite, but steer clear of lettuce - it gives them colic. The diet should be 25% dried food, 25% greens and 50% fresh hay.
victoriabunny
I give my two lots of cabbage, kale, swede/turnip and sprouts. Cabbage and kale are definitely their faves! Try to keep carrots to a special treat - carrots and apples are to rabbits what chocolate is to kids - once or twice a week only. As an extra-special treat, mine go mad over a piece of banana, and they absolutely love the millet sprays you can buy for budgies!
The Dogmother
My girls like the corn I give to the chooks as a treat, but I don't give them much because it's fattening.
Hevvur
Thanks everyone, sounds about what they are getting now anyway! Mystique is fussy, she only likes savoy cabbage and brocolli and the occaional carrot. Eevee loves everything, her fav is a tomato! Leon also loves everything we've given him! The Dogmother
I wouldn't worry if they only like a limited repertoire of food - bunnies can be quite fussy/boring eaters and prefer a stable routine where their diet is concerned. Try not to switch foods suddenly and only introduce new things slowly.
seanppk
Glad there's another banana eater out there - I thought Bernard was the exception - he goes mad for it, and I get evils when he doesn't get any. My buns don't seem to be fussy at all. They have cabbage, cauliflower, spring greens, kale, carrots, romanesco cauliflower (when they're feeling posh), sprouts, grapes, apple, sultanas, pear, and they're already eyeing up the dandelions which are just starting to sprout up again. Hockeyaholic
I think my bunnies fave is sweet potato - theres never any left over when they have that. But I generally try to give them greens - so parsley, broccoli, brussels, spinach. They have carrots occasionly and I have given them sweetcorn in the past but they weren't very impressed lol. Although they generally have veg on a daily basis I admittedly don't give them much as Delilah has quite a sensitive tummy - I do try and hand feed Tallulah a little bit tho, so she doesnt miss out.
