Wh hens
Hi everyone I don't know which one but one of my purebreeds has started laying but she has started laying in the run The run at the moment is muddy and full of poo so it is not ideal. Is there any suggestions for what to do to get her to lay in the nest box? Many thanks Will
Cat tails
Be patient and make sure the nesting box is available and not hogged by other hens.
Wh hens
Ok do you think I should add a poultry palace to the run in case the other hens take up the nest box?
Cat tails
If they just started laying now, I would give it some time. She’ll figure out sooner or later that there are better places to lay her egg.
Beantree
We have a bantam that regularly lays in the run and it's because she is being bullied out of the nest box in the coop (by her mother). Now there are three nest boxes for two laying hens, but they both want the same one and it has become mothers' territory. The only time daughter can lay in the coop is when she is shut in alone, so mother is shut out. So as Cat tails says, give it time, but don't be surprised if the situation is never resolved.
