Reliving the 1970's

Recommended Posts

It was also an 80s thing! We used to send the poor little student nurses down to theatre to get fallopian tubes and eustachian tubes but it backfired on us one day when the wits in theatre sent a box back with the completely oblivious student with a label on saying "Fallopian Tubes x 2" with 2 little bits of rubber tubing inside :lol: ! Got us back, didn't it!

This reminds me of when I started to work at the Royal Vet College as a secretary, I was called into one of the vet's offices (who incidentally is now my husband!):lol: , he was the radiologist, and when I walked in it was full of men and they proceeded to pass a black box around, a bit like a pair of binoculars that they looked through and pretended they could see through my clothes!!!:shock: I clutched various parts of my anatomy and ran out with an extremely red face!:oops::oops:

He still reminds me about it even now and it makes me feel embarrassed just thinking about it. I nicknamed him "The Beast" after that!!

(p.s. He can't be that bad really because he bought me my lovely chickens for my birthday!!) :D:D

Back to the 70's (esp. for Sheila!) a much nicer era - apart from the clothes

I've just had a wonderful afternoon playing with.... sorry -unpacking and sorting all Carl's Doctor Who memorabilia. They 've been in a box ever since we met over twelve years ago. I thought it was time they were sorted out.

He has 6 motorised Daleks, a motorised K9, and a Tardis and a (Tom Baker) Doctor Who figure - all boxed.

12 Annuals dating from 1975 - 1981 and 56 Paperbacks!

All dusted and now displayed! Great Fun!

Have a check in the collector books Lesley, some of those might be collector items. Worth knowing if they are, as insurence may need thinking about if just under house one!?!

Hubby is in to collecting comics (really old ones etc) it's amazing how some of them could be worth a bit in years to come. And how much in demand some of them are even without a price tag!!! I just see them as old comics :?

Yes Sammi - I ought to check, esp. after finding out that a tatty paperback I have is now worth £35! Someone on RC asked if anyone would photocopy most of it as she cannot get hold of a copy - and I volunteered :?

It's one of a set of three as well :D

Still in the same topic - last week I bought a Record Player

Now I can show grandchildren what those 'black things in the wardrobe' are! They don't believe me at the moment.

It worked out cheaper than replacing everything on DVD but I'd forgotten about the quality - or lack of it :lol:

Ahhh - the days of scratchy vinyls... We had a very old gramophone when I was a kid in the seventies. My first record, given to me when I was about 7 was an ABBA lp :D The gramophone was in the dining room of our great big old weatherboard farmhouse, and my sisters and I used to put on the record, climb out of the windows onto the verandah, and sing & dance like things possessed. Fortunately we lived out in the country miles from anywhere, so the only unfortunates (aside from the parents) who were subjected to this truly scary ritual were the sheep! Mind you, I did grow up to work in the theatre...

Wow... I've just discovered this thread - BRILLIANT. The seventies was my era and this has brought back some wondeful memories.

My favourite was Prog Rock, especially ELP (still got all their albums!), YES and Rick Wakeman came close second followed by Genesis and Pink Floyd. I think the best invention ever is the iPod. I've now got all my old favourites stored and can rock down the M1 :D

Did anyone ever go to the concerts at Leeds Uni or Sheffield City Hall? I remember seeing Rick Wakeman at Leeds Uni, Brilliant show but suffered from temporary deafness for almost a week after the gig - I knew I shouldn't have sat in front of that bass bin

Thanks for stirring up these memories, excellent thread :D

Cheers

Do you remember Atomic Rooster? I believe Carl Palmer was the drummer, they did a single called 'Devil's Answer'. Great record :D

I LOVED the Trilogy and Brain Salad Surgery albums... Karn Evil 9 etc...

Oh, I feel the need to sing... all together now... "There behind the glass stands a real blade of grass, be careful as you pass, move along move along"

Wow, Jem!! Well you'd have to make a back up copy wouldn't you - what if the CD got damaged!!

You've got me singing "welcome back my friends to the show that never ends..........Come inside, the show’s about to start Guaranteed to blow your head apart!" Fantastic album and what a great cover it had!! I've got 3 ELP albums languishing in the garage and I've not been able to listen to them for years! I loved them - they were excellent!!
