Guest
Thanks again all. I guess we will just have to see what happens now, James doesn't know anything is going on and all of his Christmas pressies are already bought. Oh and I've just put him out a Christmas Elf with a letter of introduction from Santa to find in the morning.

Guest
I have to dig the advent calendar out of the decorations box and stuff something in the pockets! I will get the drill out and start decorating the house this weekend. Gonna make Mum buy some more outdoor lights!
The Dogmother
christmas should be magical for kids That's just it Poet - all small children want is a little bit of magic, and it's so lovely to see the wonder on their faces. You don't have to spend much either - I've had some truly wonderful Christmases on a shoestring with Rosie when she was little. Do things together, perhaps go out for a walk if the weather is fine, and make the most of being able to spend time together.
Egluntyne
Christmas is never lovlier than when there is a small child in the house. Those days are over all to quickly so grab the chance to make each one special while you can.
The Dogmother
Wise words Egluntine. Perhaps we all ought to take time out this year to enjoy our families and count our blessings - there I go, a right Pollyanna again I don't enjoy the duty visit I pay to my sister each Christmas (don't see her in between) but it has to be done and my folks like to see us together. Christian
i agree with the above! My Family are going to Germany for Christmas this year, OH is going to Scotland and I have to work, 23 and the 26 so can't go with him!!! I guess Christmas for one with 5 chickens will be okay though!? Christmas is never an easy time for Families as you spend so much time together. There is always some snide comment from my Uncle who I only see once a year and then my Gran starts having a go....... BUT, sorry shouldn't start the sentence with a but, we do try to make an effort no matter how difficult it is! At this time of year, I do think of those who are alone in the World, or those less fortunate. Getting of my moral step now, but it should be a time of goodwill to all men (and women and children and chickens) Christian x x x x (still hoping for last minute Christmas leave)

Guest
I agree and it will be magical for James. but I still want him to have family rather than just us, otherwise most of the day will just seem like a rainy Sunday! (oh thats today!). If he can go to his aunts for a few hours and play with his cousins it will be much more exciting for him. And....I can have that hot tub party in peace. Christian are you in too? The Dogmother
Claire, I couldn't agree more - I'm downstairs at the crack of dawn gazing in wonderment at the tree spend the first couple of hours pottering in my dressing gown. Christian - you'd be more than welcome here - always space at the table in this house
Christian
Thank you both for the offer but I am still hoping that BA have some Christmas cheer and grant my leave at the last minute, so I can go to Scotland on the 23rd. Don't relish the thought of driving back on Christmas day but will do if I have to! Some lovely people on here!
Guest
Hmm the cousin who has got the family coming over has phoned now. Only cos Mum left 2 messages for her as she was going to invite the family over on boxing day. Not sure I can be asked now - might go to a boxing day race meet or something. The Dogmother
There's lots of lovely stuff going on over Christmas - see what you can find pengy. Personally I love spending time with the family, even if my mother does drive me up the walls. My idea of luxury woud be time to myself, a hair cut and a facial *looks all dreamy*. I'm lucky in that Phil's folks are lovely and so easy to have as guests. When I shared a hous ein London many moons ago - we had an open house and ended up with 24 people for Christmas dinner - someone brought their leccie cooker round so we had two ovens and everyone paid to cover their sahre and we all cooked. Guest
Hmmm Mum has now invited them for Thursday 27th. I guess it would be nice to see the rest of them, also I'm going to email the "precious son" who is having one of his few days of the year at home with his parents. Serve them right if he drops them to come over and party!
