Have another one and I'll bring the creme brulee, a bowler hat and a very large apple! It was a hoot of a party. Lots of people with baguettes tied to their heads one guy had a bowler hat on and for some surreal reason he brought a ladder with him Creme brulee would be lovely party food. Tessa I was going to say I'd come with a breadbasket on my head but thought it too predictable Did they have lobsters with them!? We've been to The Dali museum in Figueres, a REAL experience, fabulous! We have 2 giant metal ants in our garden, I always say they are a tribute to Dali I bet it was a fab party, best idea for a themed party I've ever heard! Might steal the idea We got married last July and because the hotel we got married in was built in the art deco style, we themed it around that era. 1920s/30s music, Pims as the welcome drink, DH was dressed a la Fred Astaire in 'Top Hat' and I found a lovely tiered dress that was very 'of that era'. All the stationery had a Rennie Mackintosh design on, not strictly art deco but still of that period and I loved the design As we were walking out they played 'Makin' Whoopee'

Guest
not all our wedding pics are on this PC but here's one of, from L to R, best man, my sister, dad, me, DH, BIL and FIL My sister made the head dress with swarovski crystals and feathers and the necklace was my grandmothers so was my something old, it was from the 20s and also made of swarovski crystal. Some of the buildings around the hotel adopted the art deco theme in their design too, as you can see behind us. I love that whole era. this one always makes me laugh Edited December 11, 2007 by Guest

Guest
thank you all for the lovely comments, we had a fabulous day Andrew/Fee, I do that too; building, trees, puddles, whatever takes my fancy! Here's one of a rather interesting tree in Sefton Park! I even took a photo of a perfect bubble in my coffee one morning!
Olly
Lovely picture, Poet! I like 'theme' parties, I always think I'm going to hate it but then get there and love it. My friend had an '80s' party last year, and we just bought leggings (luckily back in fashion) and things from charity shops so it didn't cost much, lashings of make-up, big hair - getting ready was as much fun as being there. Some people hired outfits, for some reason there were about five highwaymen (Adam Ant), but you can usually make something without spending much. Next is a friend's 30th party, which is 'bad taste'. I might just use what I wore to the 80s party! We're also planning a 'Shipping Forecast' party, where you have to dress as something connected with the shipping weather stations - Dogger, Viking, Fastnet ... should be interesting! Guest
so much so I treated Joe to his 30th at Burgh Island wow, any photos? We wanted to go to New York this year, the art deco buildings there are amazing as you probably know, but it wasn't to be this time. One for the future! lisa33
I love themed parties. On my 30th I had an 80's party. One of my friends turned up and said she wasn't sure where the party was until she saw Mr T and a couple of ghostbuster's crossing the road. Here is a couple of dodgy piccies of me and Andyman. One Man Banned
The hotel was more than we could have hoped for, just perfect. I will log on to the desktop tomorrow and post a load of the photo's we took. We were briefly considering a cermony there, but by the time we added up everything we would have wanted the cost would have spiralled to about £15K, but we would have the whole hotel and island to ourselves Just got to wait 2 and bit years for Joe to take me for my 30th Where's that GULP icon when you need it A xx

You wouldn't need to go anywhere else for your honeymoon though!
One Man Banned
But that was only the day and one night, granted all meals would be included and it would only be for about 30 people to stay and 150 to the ceremony and reception. I thought we could save the money and buy a very nice new caravan with it instead A xx

That reminds me, my sister and her OH have just bought a 26 foot yacht and plan to moor it at the marina at The Albert Dock and live on it! Ought to be interesting! You only get one shot at it though so if she thinks she'll be happy, why not I suppose! Let me know if you go ahead with the wedding, we'll pop down on the yacht and say hi! That's if you can get 4 people into a 26 footer!?
Cate in NZ
I thought we could save the money and buy a very nice new caravan with it instead Too practical Andrew. Where's the romance in that Talking of Art Deco destinations, this one is a long, long journey, but has any one else visited Napier in New Zealand? Stunning, Art Deco City . The entire city was demolished by an earthquake in the early 1930s, so it was all rebuilt at basically the same time, and just about all the buildings in the city centre are Art Deco style, which, of course, are beautifully maintained now in pastel colours and everything has to be in keeping. It's lovely . Unfortunately when we visited there this year I idiotically dropped my camera and damaged it so I hardly got any pics which is such a shame This is the only Napier photo I can find on my PC, and it's not very good, but gives an idea. Or there's a web-site ...Napier... Great place to visit
