Tessa the Duchess
Got an e.christmas card from a friend today Dunno why, but I felt a bit disappointed. e.cards are just not the same as real cards, you can't put them on the mantlepiece or see which charity they are supporting or even sneer at the picture they chose all you can do is look at it, then press delete I also had a real card from some friends who wrote that next year they were going digital and would I make sure they had my e.mail address I have decided I loathe e.cards, although I am sure they are better for the planet, they just don't feel 'right' to me, especially at christmas Tessa
Cate in NZ
Oh, I don't know, I quite like them . More environmentally friend, no dust gathering and they often support great causes (at least all the one's that I've recieved do, admittedly that's not many ). You can save them for a while and go back and have another look if you want. Next year all my UK based friends and family will be recieving them
Egluntyne
I'm torn between both opinions. E.cards certainly have their uses.
buffie
I like them and am sending them to clients, from Cancer Research (thanks Lesley). They get a donation and clients get a personal note via email and a card If I add alot of recipients will their email addresses all show or just their own BBx

The Dogmother
I always BCC the recipients in any multiple emails I send and have my address in the 'to' field, that way everybody stays private.
buffie
I'll have to ask Lesley as it just says add the emails on the website. These are donation ecards not just sent via an email. BBx
Ziggy
I've started ecards this year for the first time... I am very much a 'paper and ink pen' kind of person, but have decided that, looking at the huge pile of cards we got from the kids' school, it was time to go green... I just can't find any excuse for the amount of paper and envelope and so on, after all efforts made all year round with wormeries, composting, cloth nappies and so on, so took the plunge... Some people still get a paper version of the same card (I make them myself on the computer), like my mum and dad for instance cause I know they'll like to keep the card as it's got a picture of my kids on it... so I guess I've gone 50/50 rather than one way or the other, and I feel quite satisfied about it... For people who like to display their card, ecards don't work very well, but we have no room to display them all, and neither do most people I know. What decided me to start ecards this year was reading all the statistics last year somewhere about the waste at xmas... I guess it's all a question of personal preferences... my OH keeps pointing to me that some books can be read online, and I keep getting appalled at the thought... to me a book is a book, needs to be paper, needs to be something I can take to bed or throw in my bag, and something that smells of paper... reading anything online doesn't appeal to me at all, except for the news, as I can't stand the feel of newspaper... Ain't Nobody Here
I think you have to send them as BCC blind carbon copies, then the recipient can't see the others. Isn't it weird how we still call it Blind Carbon Copy? When was the last time anyone did a carbon copy of anything? (Thank goodness, they were a blooming nightmare on a typewriter unless you were a very accurate typist ).
Olly
gosh, I can remember carbon and 'blind' copies ... not THAT long ago! And there was no photocopier when I started work so you had to type things on these wax sheets and then run them off on a machine ... Gestetner? or am I imagining that I certainly never dreamed that 25 years later I'd be able to send e-cards! I will send a couple this year, to people whose addresses I don't have; I agree they are a mixed blessing.

I remember using one of those when I did 'O' grade Secretarial Studies in 6th year! You typed on paper without a ribbon so it cut the letter shapes (I think?) then fed it through the machine to get ink through the cut bits. Them woz the days - not . Lesley
I send e-cards............... I decided a few years ago to only send cards to family and friends whom I don't see regularly and to cut down on waste. I re-use cards which are sent to us as gift tags for the following year or I take them to be recycled. I made a lot of new friends on this forum and had to make a decision - so I decided to send e-cards and make a charity donation at the same time. I think the whole Christmas thing can get out of hand and I like to keep it simple. so............ to the few people I did send e-cards to....... I hope I haven't offended, that wasn't my intention

bronze
We got a piece of paper in an envelope this year. It was from my sil and it said that this year they had donated their card money to http://www.benjaminfoundation.co.uk which is a charity the family are involved with (Mil is the chair) which I thought great I dont mind afterall we dont even do Christmas cards. I did think its silly sending us this piece of paper to tell us though. I do wish they had just emailed us to tell us then the stamp money could have gone to a good cause too
Dancing Gal
E.cards for work related people and internet buddies. Card cards for family and friends. I keep my cards from year to year and it's nice to look back and see who we used to know, or as a prompt to get in touch.
