Couperman
I could be wrong but isn't it something to do with the number of searches on your site? Maybe we could start a forum campaign and all do a very specific search to your site twenty times a day or all add a link to blogs etc. Don't know if it works like that, but I am sure someone on here will know. Kev.
Mrs Frugal
Don't you have to register your website with Google or something like that?
Geoid
it helps if you submit your website to google, but google bots should to it automaticly. But the more links you have to your site the better, as that how "page rank" works (ie, if its the first link etc). You can pay a small fee to have your site as a featured link (the one that appers right at the top in the yellow box, see here)

The Dogmother
A quick way to boost your site is to get it linked from other sites like your blog. The more 'click throughs' you get the better your ranking is. Regularly updating your site helps too - the search bots are always on the lookout for new material on the sites that they trawl. Phil's new site is registered with Google and we get regular updates on the rankings, click throughs and where they come from. I can't remember how much it cost though. Be careful though, lots of sites (as with this forum) have strict non-advertising rules.

Couperman
Hi Laura, You need to let us know your website address so we can have a sneaky peek and then set about getting your business noticed By the way, I have always wondered if you are from NY or worked there, or just plain love the place, tell me to mind my own business if you like. I hope young Seth is fine and dandy. Sorry for being nosy Kev.
Geoid
I think there should be a closed "omlet forum users" only test
Egluntyne
Make sure whoever is designing your website gets the spelling and punctuation sorted. It is off putting and difficult to read for the potential customer if there are capitals jumbled up with lower case letters and exclamation marks all over the place. Keep it simple and easy to navigate round, otherwise people won't linger and browse.
Geoid
I belive the site is being designed by herself. And its really really easy to navigate.

Helen&Lee
Hi, Just seen this post and am personally quite useless - but have a hubby who has managed to get our business website quite well placed (on the first page) of both yahoo and google. We don't pay either a fee, or for that matter pay any of the 1000's of smaller search engines that will soon be calling you over and over again When he gets back in I will ask him how he has managed to get us so well placed and let you know. craftyhunnypie
I'd advise you to get an advert with yellow pages & Yell.com. They have been brilliant for our business, so much so - we have gone for a bigger ad this year! You'll get lots of enquiries by going with them! Vistaprint is good for business cards, corporate christmas cards, calendars, notepads etc...good for getting your name about! A printed catalogue as well as online or a simple brochure will draw in customers who don't use the internet. Sending out brochures to potential customers will also cause interest. Hope this helps a little & good luck! Emma.x

Emma.x It must depend on what type of business you have then We have scaled down our advert in YP and stopped Yell.com altogether. The figures they gave us for interest through Yell.com were lower than any other form of advertising we use to generate interest to our website. WitchHazel
Hi Laura Make sure that you have META TAGS set up for EVERY PAGE of your website. Meta Tags should include the key words that represent what is on the page. I don't know what your Business is, but you need to think very broadly. If I was doing stuff for Omlet, then the Metatags I would use would include#; Omlet, Hens, Chickens, Hen keeping, chicken keeping, poultry, egly, cube, Ark, Poultry housing, hobbies, free range chicken, chickenalia, poultry feed, weld mesh, avian flu, bird flu, poultry supplier, eggs, chicken feed, aubiose, hemcore,.... and so on. You should also avoid the use of Frames if you can, as these can make it hard for the bots to follow the website through. Make sure you have a good menu structure and that your menus are available on ebery page, and include a link back to your home page. And get a link to your website on as many OTHER websites as possible. An additional way to do this is to have it in you sig on any website that you post on. The more (differing) external links that a Bot sees, the higher it will rank your website. Hope that helps
