missuscluck
Just been out this morning to do my large monthly shop. The plan was to use Morrisons today for essential store cupbord items enough to last a month, then use the butchers to stock up on some meat for the freezer. I wanted to buy some free range chicken to put in the freezer. I have been into 3 different butchers this morning. The first one told me that they were not free range but were bread on a farm Err, yes. Where else would they be bread, a block of flats maybe!! The second and third butchers both said they only have them in on a Thursday Morrisons only had 4 very small whole free range chickens that didnt look like they would feed my hungry lot, so I passed on those. I'll have to go back to Waitrose on the way home from work. However I was pleased to see that Morrisons stock small jars of free range egg mayonnaise at 49p a pot. I bought 4 as my home made is rubbish
Laura & CTB
It's getting harder to find free range at the moment - I kept popping in to Sainsburys to see if they had any in but they are still having supply problems. This week I've ordered a meat box from Riverford to keep us going. Chickens bred on a farm - whatever next
Guest
Lynda, try these guys, they deliver- we went a cple of weeks ago and stocked up, the meat is lovely! http://www.traditionalmeat.com/
Guest
Just makes me appreciate my lovely butcher even more than I already did. We got a delicious chicken from there at the weekend - freerange and from a farm half a mile down the road. I was in Morrisons the other day, and noticed that a)there was no freerange chickens on the shelf, and b) they seem to have put the prices of freerange up in the past few weeks... missuscluck
Poet...Is this the butchers that you went to to stock up. It looks good. This would be a good way of getting a bulk order of good meat via the post. As I am stocked up at the mo (exept the chicken ) I will just get some from Waitrose this time as I only really need one for roasting and a few chicken breasts for stir frying, but will consider using them next time. It looks great. I was quite taken aback in the first butchers as we have used them a lot prior to us having our own pork as they do sell the best pork/bacon/sausage I have ever tasted (apart from our own, of course )and have won lots of awards for it. Obvoiusly chicken is not their thing!
Egluntyne
they seem to have put the prices of freerange up in the past few weeks... Now there is a surprise!
Christian
My local Waitrose has not had any free range chicken breasts in for 4 days. My local butcher has run out too.
The Dogmother
Well, it's good that there is more demand. I just hope that people won't go back to buying intensively reared chicken if they can't find free range. I wore my chicken out t shirt to circuit training last night and got 3 comments that people now buy free range after seeing the programmes. Christian
We had the roofer over the other day (def. a meat and two veg man ) and he said that he wouldn't but cheap chicken after seeing the HFW and Jamie Oliver programmes

The Dogmother
Yup, Gareth's brother! I had my suspicions as soon as you turned up. I've never see you wearing your Omlet t shirt to step class though. I didn't know that you kept chickens too though.
UkButton
Correct? Gareth gets everywhere! I went the boxers route rather than T shirt. I've only had mine since june (Chickens not boxers). It had to be an Eglu though, I don't like wooden ones.
The Dogmother
he used to work with me at RMR until they went down the pan. Eglus are best, of course, but then I'm biased. Does Gareth still have his chooks then? I haven't bumped into him for ages now.
UkButton
Yeah he is looking for a cheap Eglu with no run as he has to keep treating his wooden one for mites. Thats the thing with Gareth if he turns up at your work get the job paper out he's had 4 or 5 redundences now!
The Dogmother
Aw bless, he's a bit of a Jonah then! I guess you won't let him work at GF then! Cheap eglu... he'll be lucky! There was someone on Banbury Freecycle once wanting one for free - gave me a laugh.

Omletina Kyckling
The recent TV coverage is obviously causing problems with supplies. I just found this statement on the Sainsburys website Free range & organic chicken Due to an unprecedented rise in demand we have some availability issues on free range & organic chicken. We are doing all we can to source extra supply and hope that this does not affect your order. Excellent! The message is getting through!
