Willow
I got 4 eggs today, one was just laid on the ground about 1/2m from the nest 2 of my chickens use and one was in the nesting box that the other laying hen uses. Out of the other 2 hens, one is a speckldy with distinctive eggs when they do appear so I know it isn't hers. I would seem too soon in the day for it to be a secodn egg from one of the gingernut rangers but we thought the Miss Pepperpot wasn't laying except very rare soft shelled eggs. All 4 eggs are slightly different shades and the 4th doesn't look exactly the right shade to have come from any of the others but it very very similar. Could it be the Miss Pepperpot ? hillfamily
Our Miss Pepperpot lays lovely big dark brown eggs if that's any help
Snowy
Most of them seem to lay a slightly darker brown than the gingernuts, but there can be some overlap. Does sound like someone else has started laying!

Willow
Another 4 eggs again today If they keep up this rate I can stop buying eggs from the supermarket... The Miss Pepperpot (imaginatively renamed Pepper by the kids) was lurking in the nest box this morning. She came racing out when I appeared with leftover weetabix. I couldn't stay to watch but I am sure it's her laying. they are very like the gingernut ranger eggs and are definitely not the speckeldy eggs. I had just resigned myself to her never ever laying for us and she does this Although the speckedly rarely lays (too fat me thinks) hubby had been muttering about Pepper ever since Justine dropped them off and said she only ever lays a soft shelled every few weeks (I already knew that from her post looking for a new home for them but I'd deliberately not told him on the grounds he'd never realise there was one consistently not laying )

My pepperpot lays long, flesh ( remember that old paint by numbers colour ) coloured eggs

They are also slightly bigger.
chrisnrob
My pepperpot lays long, flesh ( remember that old paint by numbers colour ) coloured eggs Our Pepperpot lays the same sort of egg. Our Gingernut lays slightly smaller, browner eggs. Our friends have got two Gingernuts and one lays slightly lighter, bigger eggs than the other. I think they're all individuals Rob
SueSteve
Congratulations of your 4 eggs!! Our pepperpots used to lay dark brown eggs, although we only had 3 soft eggs from one of the girls. The gingernuts laid the 'flesh' coloured eggs, impossible to tell them apart! And now Daisy started laying yesterday a very pale almost white egg! 2 girls yet to lay, and Tilly yet to start laying again!
Ain't Nobody Here
but I'd deliberately not told him on the grounds he'd never realise there was one consistently not laying ) They're easy to fool aren't they . Do you think mine would notice if I sneaked another hen in .
