Bea, making progress I hope :0)

Recommended Posts

she came out about 10 minutes ago, had loads to eat and drink and is really much more alert and interested in her surroundings, she's pottering about at the moment and although it's cold, it's sunny and she hasn't gone back in! She came over to the netting and even tried to poke her head thru the gap btwn the cane and the mesh, to get better acquainted with Maud. It's good that she's engaging more as they'll get used to her better.

I'm so happy! :D

Took a few quick snaps from the back door, didn't want to disturb her too much.

she's quietly sunbathing now. I think it might have been the cold weather that was keeping her inside, it must hurt her legs. It was worrying though, especially the not eating bit. As we're still fairly new to chicken keeping, I didn't what to expect with Bea.

Egluntine, I'll always be concerned for my girls

...so you can relax and enjoy her instead of being anxious.

I am, it's lovely to see her engaging more with the others too. I'm glad I posted my concerns though as I've picked up some valuable advice and thank you to everyone for the good wishes and moral support, it means a lot when you're unsure of the best course of action.

Wish I could buy you all a drink, cheers!

she'll be tired tonight I think :D She's been out in the garden for a bit while the others free ranged. They do ignore her a bit more but there's still the odd peck at her so we can't be too far away. She's had a cple of grapes and some corn on the cob with them and Ian put her into the girls run so she could have a poke about in there while they were out and then he could clean her coop. He's now cleaning the girls' coop and Bea is in there supervising him and sitting on the low perch! :D

We're going to try putting her to bed with them tonight so fingers x'd! :?

Will post some pics later of her out and about today.

I am cautiously optimistic, as they say ;)

this is how she gets around, she hops and uses her wings to sort of propel herself

and her perching on the low perch inside, seems to give her some relief, this is her where she is right now. We popped her in shortly after the girls went to bed, 3 of them sleep in the nest boxes and Shalott sleeps in the far corner so she has the perch to herself. Their bodyheat should keep her warm though. We stayed out for about 10 mins and there was no argy bargy. Ian's going to check on them later but so far, so good

im sure she will be much perkier and happier once she's integrated into the flock. they can all snuggle together then. :D

because she flaps her wings to get about, the others think she's being agressive (you couldn't have a gentler hen but they don't know that!) so it will take them a while to get used to her I think. I do hope they will accept her in the end, we'll do our best to help, any tips greatly appreciated :D

let them out about half an hour ago and then popped her back in her own run, she seems fine. She had some pellets and went to sit on her fresh hottie, it's very cold this morning.

Fingers x'd for some sun later :D

Now for coffee!

she hasn't ventured out of the coop today, except for a bit of food and water. Either she didn't sleep very well last night (maybe one of the others snores!?), we tired her out yesterday or it was too cold today???

Meal worms in a bit then bed with the others again and see what tomorrow brings :D

thanks Susan :D I can only hope she is happy in her own little way. I don't think the cold weather agrees with her legs, poor little girl. Ian said she seems to have eaten a fair few pellets today, I do hope so. She must have snook out while I wasn't looking ;)

I have the snuggle safe pad now, so kindly sent by chickenlass  so will pop that in with her t'row if it's bitter again but I do believe (and hope) that the temp will be higher t'row than today

she had a good night with them again and I put her back in her own run this morning, she's had loads of pellets and some meal worms and mash potato for tea :D In fact, she woofed the mash and I had to drag the pot away from her in case she ate too much! She came out a bit at the warmest part of today and then went back in to sit on her snuggle safe.

I won't add to this thread now as she seems to be settling in and her appetite is improving so things are looking good. :D

Thanks again for everything from me and Bea
