Thankyou everyone.

 

we normally get someone to house sit, and we do actually have a burgler alarm (was there when we moved in) we have no idea where all the bits of it are, and how it would work with the cats.

 

thing is i got an awfull phonecall on friday so just legged it back home to essex to sort it out, then the following day get a call from the police telling us what happened!

 

I am now paraniod, as i never leave the house normally (I normally work from home), and it seems a bit of a coinsidence that the 1 day i am away from home without a house sitter that they just "happen" to have popped by!

 

I mop and polish everything before i leave the house now! so any foot print / finger prints wont be mine!

 

i really just dont feel safe im petrified that they will come back to get the rest of the stuff that they left the last time!

I'm sorry you're feeling so bad Kaz. Whoever it was came when you weren't there, so they are unlikely to return while you are there - i.e. you are unlikely to meet them and have that particular scare!

 

I guess returning to your house after going out must be quite frightening. Perhaps you need someone with you at the moment? You could look into the Alarm as I'm sure you would find that reassuring.

I'm am so sorry for you. I spent many years dealing with domestic insurance claims and visiting people who had been burgled. Having never been through it myself it would be trite to say I know how you feel, but my sympathies are with you - especially for those things such as family jewellry that cannot be replaced as opposed to non emotive things such as tvs and videos etc.

I do wish you the very very best of luck in recovering any of your stuff and I am sending loads of cyber hugs to you.

The woggles send lots of barks and growls to the burglars and will bite their bums if they catch them.

Sorry, just being a bit light-hearted on a serious thread, so apologies in advance for lowering the tone, but reading Kate's posting got me specluating. Policemen don't do much for me, in my experience they're all weedy, wet behind the ears youngsters, or overweight, middle-aged cynics, but how about a panic alarm to call in a bunch of burly, hunky fireman . And no, grd, before you tell me that it's called a fire (or smoke) alarm, I don't want a fire, I just want them to come and flex their muscles a bit and rescue me

The eldest has a body of a temple ( ) he has run Barcelona, Paris and New York Marathons in about 3 hrs 40mins, and London is getting its 5th visit this year ... his personal best being about 3 and 1/2 hrs. .

The middle one .... hmmm ..... not cynical, but very for the community and kids.

The youngest (18 mths older than me) ... dog handler ... fit and was Fancied by Kirsty Young (Newsreader) when in high School.

 

Oh, forgot to mention ... the middle one WAS a Fireman, before switching professions .

 

Know what you mean though ...... having said that there are always exceptions to the rule, just a case of finding them, or them responding to your 999 call.

Don't go there! The place where we have been staying? Grade 1 acrchitect designed award winning house: therefore: linked up to fire station... First weekend there: OH out walking doggies on an Early Sunday morning: so what do I do? Burn toast...... 7 firemen in minutes. OH returns to find them on the lawn drinking tea . I could have died of embarrassment.

Sarah, it was a very tongue in cheek comment, don't really want to offend too many police, but I know quite a few, and so many start out very fresh faced and very earnest and then gradually mutate into the overweight cynics, but I know I'm being grossly unfair to a lot a great men and women doing an important job in difficult circumstances. After all, I married one

Still, the grass is always greener and Firemen always seem to have great physiques, needing to stay in shape for a physically demanding job I'd guess

In Sheffield, if you ask for a smoke alarm to be fitted sometimes the whole fire engine and firemen come round to fit it

Kaz, so sorry for late reply(have been ill). How are you doing now?

I think it must be really horrible to know that someone has been in your house uninvited - a real invasion of privacy.

 

When things like this happen they have stolen more than your belongings but also your feelings of being safe in your own home. ( I have been there myself).

 

Fortunately there are practical things you can do ( sorting out your alarm system properly) but there are also emtional things too.

 

I dont want to seem unsympathetic over the loss of your belongings as it must be really awful but its important that you dont let the burglars change the way you live your life. The way I got over it was that I felt angry enough to make me fight them by not living my life in fear.
