bronze
We've been trying to sell a large dog kennel and run. Its about 6 months old and we bought it new for over 450. Anyway after a no sale we listed it again. Each time we had messages asking if we would send it courier and we replied we would for the buy it now price provided they organised the courier and the couriers didn't expect us to pack it. A chap won it NOt at the buy it now price then expected to have if collected by a courier who wantes the whole thing bubblewrapped. We're talking 6ftx10 panels here. Anyway after him messing us around a load more I relisted it and started a dispute with him. Afterall the fees have coms to over 25 quid so far. Anyway relisted at a lower reserve and buy it now. We get a different chap asking the same question so I give this reply "We would consider a courier for the buy it now price. The buyer would have to arrange collection and we would not wrap the item (excluding packaging up small parts) so the buyer would have to check all the details with their courier first. We think this is fair as the buy it now price is very low for what the item is. We won't be including our patio. Hope that helps". Anyway I go back to the sold item last night to find hes bid on it and won it at the reserve and think odd I wonder if hes going to collect it himself. This morning I log on to find a message saying I will arrange for a courier blah blah blah (about collection and payment). Am I right to be furious about this. THe reserve is £50 less than the but it now price. I feel like he's trying to diddle us but we really can't afford to lose the extra money. I replied this "I'm sorry but you should be picking up in person. I refer to my first reply to yourself when you asked about couriers. I stated for the buy it now price as couriers often expect a lot fom the person they are collecting from. Please find out what the couriers expectations are." What would you do? I'm so angry and upset but after all the hassle its caused I don't know if I have the energy to fight it.
Eyren
Hugs on the ebay hassle - I had a bit of a run-in with the people who sold me my eglu, because the bolts turned out to be broken (the nice folk at Omlet sent me free replacements in the end) and the sellers refused to so much as apologise I think you should stick to your guns - you've made your position clear, and if the "buyer" can't stick to them, you're entitled not to sell your goods. I would contact him again and say something like "Before I can accept payment, please can you confirm that you will collect the item or arrange a courier? As stated in our earlier correspondence, we will not arrange a courier ourselves except at the 'Buy it Now' price, which is higher than your current bid. Thank you." Good luck! Cinnamon
Hi Bron, I am not sure about this. To be honest if I were selling an item & asking the buyer to pay for Courier delivery & arrange all packing, then I think that it should be the same whether they won it on a BIN basis or by bid That said you did make your terms clear to him, so he should abide by them. If you do need to list it yet again I would list it only as a BIN, with no bidding. Then you can make your terms & conditions clear on the listing. bronze
Its' because from our experience couriers are unreliable and the chances are we would end up hanging around all day because of no definite pick up times. DH would have to arrange to be at home too as its too heavy fro one person and I can't lift it at the mo. So if he had to hang around all day..... Helen&Lee
Sorry, don't have any experience selling on ebay but do understand your point. Aside from that though, did you try selling it in your local papers classifieds section? In my experience things like that plus sheds, playhouses, greenhouses, etc seem to go quite fast, and people are prepared to pay decent money. dogs and chickens
I had a business buying and selling on ebay for a year before I had my baby. I did not come across anyone wanting the buyer to arrange a courier but then I nearly always collected the items I was buying myself, and went daily to the post office to take the sales. One lady with a UK address, wanted one of the items which was a very heavy item to be posted to some Overseas address, when the auction was for UK only delivery due to weight of said item. She only paid for UK delivery then said she wanted it posted overseas (It was going to cost over £45 to post!!!!!!!!!!! I refused to send the item and did a dispute against her, as she had not read my terms. I do not think you are being unreasonable, afterall you had stated your terms before he bid. However the more you list the item the more it is costing you. Every time you sell the item you are losing more money as you have paid the final value fee each time. Sometimes you have to weigh up the hassle re-listing the item might be. You may be better off relisting and saying collection only! The other thing is to consider your ebay feedback, I always try to keep people happy as I don't want to receive bad feedback. Sometimes I have to swallow hard though! Good Luck let us know how it all pans out.......
Olly
Unfortunately I think a lot of people just don't bother to read the terms & conditions. If you believe you were clear about it, then stick to it. If he doesn't want to arrange it, he hasn't really lost anything has he - and if he wants it badly enough, he'll make the arrangements. Paola
Unfortunately I think a lot of people just don't bother to read the terms & conditions. I agree Can you just leave the kennel outside for the courier to collect it?
Cate in NZ
How frustrating for you Bron, I'd be pretty fed up as well. We've sold several items through ebay recently, and we've put everything that can't easily be posted by the regular mail service as buyer collects. I refuse to get into the whole hassle of the courier thing. We may have possibly put off a few buyers in other parts of the country, but I have neither the time or inclination to faff about with couriers . bronze
We've just gone with it as its cost us a lot in fees and will be more hassle than its worth. We have made him pay us the money direct though so we don't lose any more on ebay. He'll have to wait until it is completely cleared before its collected.
