My eco solution to rat problems

Today I made a set of roosting bars as mine are looking a bit tatty now ans we used different size wood to the stuff that the eglu roost bars are made from. It will be the test tomorrow to see if they fit.

 

I will post up a pic tomorrow-If I remember!

 

Instead of having 6 bars on each section I changed it to four as we're using wood that's 1 and 1/2 inches wide. I'll show you what I mean when I take a piccie.

Well I cleaned them out today and put in the new roosting bars! They fit, but we had to do a bit of tweaking, here are some pics.

I like the idea of bigger gaps between the bars - more space for the poo to drop through & less wood to scrub

I used treated timber from Wickes which was 1 & 1/2 inches by 3/4 of an inch

They seem to be getting on ok with them-they're used to larger perches as that's what their wooden coop had!

My mark 2 roosting bars are falling apart, they are more flimsily made than the roosting bars for my mark 1.

 

I did think about buying a second set but the postage to get them up here doubles the price

 

I'm going to have a go at making a set myself
