ali-s
could not believe the taste test for the intensive chicken!! . Me neither. I'm just glad OH was out and did not see the item, he loves his cheap chicken
TrishY
nice to see the different breeds but I don't think they actually named any of them, what was the breed that the girl at the show was holding? looked like it had blue ears would it lay blue eggs? Reikiranf
I meant to record it and totally forgot, please tell me what was the intensive chicken test?
Tessa the Duchess
I meant to record it and totally forgot, please tell me what was the intensive chicken test? A group of people taste tested 4 differently reared chickens. Intensive, cornfed, organic and freerange. The tasters chose the intensive as the best Freerange was second, corn fed third and the organic came last Was not a good message Tessa
Reikiranf
It's not necessarily bad news, people probably prefer what they're used to. Unless they try to cheat the test like Rick Stein did on his Christmas show with the turkey I used to buy the cheap chicken before I became aware of the welfare and health issues. The first time I noticed a difference was when I bought a chicken from my local butcher and it took me back to my childhood the meat was tasty and tender where as the supermarket cheap stuff was bland and chewy
feemcg
I must admit, when I cooked and ate my 1st whole free-range chicken I wasn't sure I liked it - I thought it was a bit chewier and more 'meaty' in texture. I had just always been used to the plumped up, spongy texture of the cheap stuff .
chelsea
we couldnt believe they picked the intensive bird either! Like hubby said though, you get used to the taste, most of the tasters were students so probably can only afford standard chicken anyway so when it came to the test they went with what they were used to.
