pbfhpunk
Has anyone got some from here before http://www.warwickshirerarebreedfarm.co.uk/? Or can anyone suggest any places in or around Warwickshire, I'm in a small village just outside Leamington Spa. Thanks Helen
moochoo
Hi, apart from my gingernuts, which are from omlet the rest of my girls are from Warwickshire Rare Breeds. They have been very healthy and good layers. The lady that runs it is very nice and helpful but can come across a little stern when you meet her. Don't let this put you off. Good luck in finding your chooks.
Snowy
I've had chickens from there as well. I agree, she appears a bit stern at first, but is really lovely. I've had an araucana and a gold campine off her, plus two araucana hybrids. All lovely birds. She often has more in stock than is shown on her website, so worth ringing and letting her know what you want (even if that is quite vague). She will walk in the pens with you and help you to choose a good selection. My hens chose me when I visited!
pbfhpunk
Cool, thank you both for that. I thought I'd have to go to Banbury to get some so am really glad I found her! I lived in Rugby my whole life until November when I moved so it's pretty much on my doorstep and when I was 12 we got a ferral cat from my friend's grandmother in Church Lawford so it seems right that my new pets come from there! Thanks again Helen
Guest
Thanks for posting this, we are looking at getting 3 more hens at Easter Snowy, Dan was very taken with the picture you posted of your little gold campine, she is adorable and we were hoping to get one. He says she is like our little Kylie but in a different frock This place isn't too far from us so I will ring tonight and see what she has We also want a cream legbar and a Maran, just really for the different colour eggs, but who knows what we will choose

AMO
Hi Helen Try the Domestic Fowl Trust at Honeybourne ( just the otherside of Bidford on Avon) - it is worth calling them before to see what they have got in. Also, Cotswold Chickens, which is between Bloxham and Chipping Norton (about 1/2 hour from you) again give them a call to see what they have in before travelling over. pbfhpunk
Thanks for that AMO - are you the person in Wellesbourne running the course on 10th May? We were looking into going to it but will have our chickens by then - hopefully - so not sure if it's only for prospective owners - I have never touched a chicken in my life and am quite nervous I'll be like Lenny from Of Mice and Men! Helen Yes it is me! I may be running one in April too - you would be more than welcome on a course as it covers a lot of topics which may help you anyway. Helen When you get your own chickens, they are usually point of lay and can be a bit skittish until they come into lay. Always a good idea to practice chicken wrangling on someone elses chickens first! Plus they are likely to be older and more used to being handled. Go on the course Helen - you know you want to! I think the lady is called Julie and I know what you mean about her manner. She did seem a bit brusque at first when we visited, but then she had just come out of the shower having been dealing with a lice infestation in one of her hen houses , and she was OK once we got chatting. Must be more of a "chook-person" than a "people-person". Give it a go. Good luck!
