Louisdog
Yay I am pleased to hear Scooby is behaving OK now! Ooh I am now dangerously tempted, I love the idea of a clean kitchen floor without having to actually get the mop out! How much floor will he do on one tank? Does he need a lot of filling up? I wonder if they'll start selling them in the UK soon. Fingers crossed they do!
The Dogmother
I was telling Phil about the Roomba - he's gadget man! - he had seen one in use before apparently, but said that the cat fluff on my floors would choke it I have nearly all wooden floors - the original Victorian floorboards - and I vacuum and mop them twice a week. The kitchen has a tiled floor, which gets mopped at least twice a week, depending on how wet it is outside and how many muddy paw prints there are! I think that I have too many 'things' on the floor for something like a Roomba to cope
Louisdog
I dunno, we have two hairy dogs, two cats (one fluffy) and an aversion to hoovering, and when the roomba tackled rooms which haven't been done for a shameful amount of time, it coped ok. It did get fluff tangled in its brushes a few times and kept picking up a tank full of fluff, but now we are sending it round regularly it seems to cope fine. Go on you know you want one! And of course a scooba to mop for you too
Snowy
I'd love one but think it will have to wait until the children leave home - it would choke on all the lego and crayons at the moment!

I actually enjoy mopping and cleaning, not that you'd notice
Louisdog
Actually that's a good point. The roomba is on the credit card and the scooby would need to go on there too. Although I did just sell an eglu on ebay which helps. I wouldn't mind housework either, it's just finding the time. My friend actually really enjoys it, and her house looks beautiful, like a show home. (Mine doesn't )
The Dogmother
Mine is never that clean either What with Rosie and her friends running in and out, the cats marching in with their wellies still on... it's never going to be spotless. More like homely and snug Carpets make me wheeze and I don't find them clean, hence the varnished floorboards.
Guest
I am very close now to giving in to the temptation - and I haven't given my mother hers yet! Looking back over the 19 years I have been at home, I can conclude that however much I intend getting the vacuum out, it is the very last thing I'll do and in fact I don't actually do it unless I absolutely have to - like guest is arriving in 30 minutes! I don't mind doing it at all when I'm doing it, but I never seem to get that far. For the floors to be cleaned every day without me actually doing it is a dream and I have convinced myself and OH that a Roomba is the practical answer to my failings. I still feel guilty about not vacuuming though, so I haven't ordered one yet, but I know I will eventually. Your reports on here tell me a Roomba is everything I hope for and more! Cinnamon
Right,Oh Roomba gurus, I have a few questions for you As you know, mine is on its way - in fact it will be here tomorrow. I have just hoovered the downstairs so it will be nice & clean for when it comes - how sad is that? 1 - Will it cope with coir matting? My back door mat is inset into my kitchen tiles & gets really bitty. 2 - How tall is a 530 model? I want to know if it will fit under the sofas. Under the beds is not an issue as all our beds have heaps of under bed stores anyhow. 3 - Will it cope with small wooden ledges on the threseholds of the rooms. My floors are oak & have oak seperators between the rooms. They are not big,but they are there. 4 - Is it totally wrong to name it? I think I have decided on Scuttle
Louisdog
Ginette you have summed up how I feel! Oops sorry Scooby! Cinnamon I think it'll be ok with coir, we have a similar mat that it copes with. Dunno the height and he's upstairs so I can't be bothered to measure it, can do later if you like. But he does under my sideboard and low bed, but not my sofa, it's just too low. The cats go under the sideboard and bed but not the sofa ... so maybe that gives some idea? Depends if you have cats I guess! Not sure on the ledges, I think he'll be ok but depends on the height. Mince can cope with some bits like that on ours but gets confused by a hearth. I think it's definitely good to name it but we haven't agreed on a name for ours yet Scuttle is good
Helen&Lee
I'm ever so tempted Is that Egluntine talk for 'watch this space?' Now, having finally sucumbed to reading this thread - I can happily conclude that I want one of each.... Have to start saving the pennies Just one question for the scooba though as I think that might be my first choice - I have a big conservatory (30ft x 12ft) and the tiles are kind of dimpled. I find that mud / dirt collects in the dimples and when mopping it I have to drench the floor with warm water, leave a few minutes to loosen said dirt and them mop with pressure... Its so bad because we use the conservatory as our main entrance and with two dogs in and out of the garden..... also its the job I hate Do you think that with using the scooby on a regular basis it could cope with it? Egluntyne
8cms high. Does my doormats beautifully.
Cinnamon
Thanks for that. Its about 2mm too high to fit under my sofas, but never mind
Guest
You'll just have to get new sofas to accommodate the Roomba!
Laura & CTB
My Roomba arrived on Monday so guess what I spent all Monday afternoon doing? Sat on the sofa while it trundled round for an hour and a half before sending itself back to bed. I love it !!! Louisdog
We couldn't stop watching ours and kept thinking how amazing it was that a machine was hoovering for us! Then we had to try letting it bump into us, then watch the cats and dogs' reactions, then try out spot cleaning function, telling it to dock, etc etc. Kept us entertained for a good hour or so!
