Crufts!

Recommended Posts

Oh Sarah you must tell me how your day went at Crufts!!!

I wont be going this year as i havent been too well recently - first time not attending in 10 years but im sure i'll cope!:lol:

We always attend on terrier day as having EBTs we always watch the breed judging and look for potential suitors for Poppy and see how teddys children & grandchildren fair in the ring.

From what i've read it looks like most of us have an idea of our ideal dog and it does not include.....

'anything with fancy fur or hairdo's or one that cant see or has a topiary tail'

L'Oreal - because you're worth it!!

'no rat like creatures that pass for dogs' (brown guinea)

'nothing with a ribbon in its hair or with shimmering locks that have to be combed every fifteen minutes......or dribbly dogs'

'nothing that is primped and pampered or anything that will fit in a handbag'

How big would the bag have to be?

Well, we've just got back from crufts. I've had a fab time but boy was it busy! We've been to the NEC loads of times with living on it's doorstep but never experienced so many people.

It's quite overwhelming seeing so many dogs of the same breed happily snoozing, waiting for their turn to be judged. It really amazed me how well behaved the show dogs and the visiting dogs were. Considering there were thousands we didn't hear or whitness a scuffle of any sort.

We really enjoyed the discover dogs area which show cases each breed that's shown at crufts. It gives you a chance to meet the dogs and their owners to find out more about them.

It was very tempting to hide some of the smaller dogs down my jumper but I resisted

We sat in the arena for the agility and flyball events but it was so hot we retreated for the fresh air after an hour an a half.

All in all it was a great day, I've fallen in love many times and met some really nice people who are very passionate about their dogs.

Sadly, we couldn't stay to the end to see the final judging but we will record it on tv. How they make a decision I'll never know!

I had a funny e mail today. My brother is partialy sighted and thus does not work any more. However he had a large computer that speaks to him and this keeps him very busy.

My e mail was set out as a BBC news article logo and all, and said that all the bets have closed for crufts as a wonder dog has been discovered. It then had a picture of my mutt Oscar and interviews etc..

He would be just about the most unlikley dog ever to even get into crufts  As he is spoilt and a monkey!

I get lots of humerous mail from him, my kids think its hilarious.

We haven't been back long. We went up yesterday to watch the Chinese Crested judging and stayed up the night which was a bit of a luxury because in the past I've always taken dogs so left home at about 5am and got home at about 9pm.

I love all the breeds (well some of them I wouldn't want to own) because it's the fascination of watching them and judging them against the breed standard and seeing if the judge agrees.

Unfortunately with 2 DDs in tow we didn't get to watch as much as we would have liked. In the Chinese Crested ring the quality wasn't as high as usual. I think I'll watch from my sofa next year.

Bets halted over 'super dog' fear

The prestigious Best In Show will be awarded on Sunday

Concerns that a mystery "super dog" will paw Crufts' top prize has led a bookmaker to cease taking bets.

William Hill said it closed the book on which category of dog would win Best in Show after a "flurry of activity" over two days backed a "utility" dog winner.

Odds for the usually unfancied group, which includes Jack Russell’s and bulldogs, were slashed from 13-2 to 1-2.

The firm's Rupert Adams said: "There must be people in the know who are aware of an absolute wonder dog." Photos of the wonder dog have appeared on the web he is said to be a handsome Jack Russell by the name 'Oscar the first'.

His owners Joshua and Katie have always known Oscar the first is a wonder dog and will easly take the first prize best in show.

Thousands of dog lovers and their pets are gathering for the start of the world's largest dog show, with almost 23,000 dogs, including 1,165 from overseas, expected to take part in the four-day event.

The Best in Show is chosen from the winners of seven different categories, which include terrier, hound, toy, gun and working dogs.

The kennel club have not seen any thing like this before saying there is nothing doggy about this situation the judges have not been "Ooops, word censored!"bled 'Oscar the first' is the best ever to enter Crufts.

All the other dogs might as well go home and just let 'Oscar the first' parade around the ring on his own.

This will go down in history as the biggest sensation since the event was founded by entrepreneur Charles Cruft in 1891.

I must stand up for Chihuahuas! I had one, Katie that had been bred and shown from. I got her when she was 5 and sadly she had to be put to sleep at only 10 years old (not old for a chihuahua) she was the most determined little flirt ever! Everyone who came round said "Oooo you've got one of those horrible little rat dogs" and in about 2-3mins Katie had them eating out of her paw.

I now have a Chihuahua Puppy (longcoat) called Dobby he's quite big for a chihuahua but is pure pedigree, he's like a little border collie (I LOVE THOSE DOGS! but they are way to much for me as I can't get about a lot), he plays all the time and then will rest his head on my lap and looks like hes wearing a cravat (sp?). So even thou hes a small dog it doesn't mean hes not a dog, as hes got soooo much character (as do lots of little dogs) it doesn't mean I don't like big dogs or cross breeds as I love them too, but a chihuahua is right for me right now and I'm sure I will always have them and maybe a cross breed or big dog too one day when I'm better.

...anyway  I thought I would put that. Though I'm hope is doesn't sound like I'm being ratty as I'm not :D .

AnH I love your pooch hes very dashing looking in that photo!:D

Certainly not, :D - each to their own I say! If you love your little dog then good for you - it would be a boring doggie world if we all had the same! :D

Im a big dog person you see - dont do ankle biters!:lol:

A few years ago the OH & I went to stay with his sister down south and she happened to be dog sitting a lab and a Yorkie for a friend of hers. She already has 2 labs and we took our EBT

We went out for a walk - 4 humans, 3 labs, 1 EBT & PJ the Yorkie.

What a troop! :roll::lol:

Im not massively keen on little dogs but PJ oozed character and despite his size was getting stuck in the fun & frolics with the dogs 10 times his size. His personality was BIG and i quite fell for him!:D:lol:

Previously i have met Yorkies who are shockingly behaved and very snappy - like piranahs with fur! But PJ melted my heart :D

I love Chihuahuas too - had 7 in the past...lovely little characters & I love it when they temble & also when they dance & prance!

I'm now on the waiting list of the pug rescue - it could be ages, it could be soon, as they match a suitable dog to you - depending on what you have applied for (eg: sex, age, character, any other pets....). Fingers crossed it will be soon - or I will have to source a breeder locally!

We used to show 2 of our chihuahuas - they did well if it was a male judge, but if it was a lady judge, then they played up! Little floosies!

We also showed one of our Cavalier King Charles Spaniels - he did very well & my sister came 3rd in the country as Junior Handler. Bless her & Tanner the Spaniel. He got bought a fancy pet bed out of her winnings!

I also like to see scruffy little doggies win - genuinely loved doggies, not ones groomed & looking like they have been in a Spa all day long. Some of the handlers & owners are horrid, they starve the dogs before showing & don't really love them - it's all show, status & greed with a lot of them!

The beagle is stunning however at this stage i dont think it takes an expert to judge Best In Show - anyone can do it. All the hard work has already been done by the breed and group judges so its down to personal preference. All the dogs in the ring tonight will be so close to their breed standards it can be anyones win!
