Mel (& Paul)
I have a confession to make I am going to start going to Weight Watchers Its not that I am going to do all the dieting stuff (other than being more sensible on what I eat) but I think I need the motivation - Each week I start with good intentions, but they all fall by the wayside by the end of the day I really need to loose about 2 stone and all I seem to do is eat more and more and get wobblier and wobblier
AnnieP
Mel, I'm with you there. I seem to be going up around 7lbs a year. I hate diets. I lose weight, then put it back on, and some more. My attitude is now, don't diet, change your diet. If you're not going to do it forever, don't bother. Sorry to sound so negative, but its really not worth the misery. Change one thing that you can live with and see what happens. I gave up alcohol for the whole of February and lost 10 lbs! (I did drink a lot...every night... ). Now I'm only drinking at weekends and the weight has stayed off. Now I am thinking about what I can do next. I think I am going to dance when I get in from work every night for 20 minutes. You know, stupid, hands and arms in the air, loony leg kicking stuff. I hate exercise, but I could tolerate that. We'll see what happens next....probably slip a disc or something.. If you need to loose the weight first, then fine, go to weight watchers, but remember when you stop, it'll creep back on unless you do something. Diets are bad for you. Popcorn
WW is great Mel for offering support and motivation. The willpower bit is then up to you! I lost three stone leading up to our wedding 2 years ago, and I found it great being on a meal plan that I knew would allow me to loose weight, but still have treats within my day too. It's tough loosing weight, but the rewards are so great when you get into the swing of it. Needless to say I will be joining again after baby is born
Linda
The thing with WW is that it is a healthy eating plan that you can adopt for the rest of your life without deprivation as it is based on quite simple, basic principles. If you do have a tendency to put on weight easily then you just have to face that fact and work with it. You don't have to face the rest of your life depriving yourself of things you enjoy - it's all about balance. I have fluctuated all my life (although steady for the last few years) because I put weight on easily . I have been to clubs and they can be very good to help keep you motivated. Losing weight is a very personal thing and you have to do it in a way that suits you when it is the right time for you to do it. Good luck with it Mel. Hope the WW plan includes plenty of eggs! Popcorn
DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT!!! I went to Salsa classes and I loved it (I'm a shy bean too). It was great fun and you felt a great sense of acheivement at actaully being able to dance properly! It's great fun Louise - you've got to give it a try at least
Louise
Its not pure dancing but exercise to salsa with some dance moves chucked in I think I think I will at least try it and see how I get on

Linda
Louise, do the salsa! Dancing is great exercise and good for your soul too!! I used to go to belly dancing classes (haven't been just recently because circumstances don't allow) and I found it really good fun and such a boost to my confidence. After spending all my life apologising to the world for having hips, I could actively enjoy them!! Do it - you have everything to gain and nothing to lose! Hellcat
Needless to say I will be joining again after baby is born gina, if you are breastfeeding, wait until you finish. The feeding will take off some of the excess weight, but its really not a good idea to diet when feeding, so bear with it. You need to eat regularly, like when pregnant, with lots of healthy snacks, like fruit and raw veg, or nuts etc to snack on. Sorry, I get quite concerned when feeding mothers decide to diet, as it really isnt good for you or the baby!
The Dogmother
Yup, your milk might dry up, besides, the weight just drops off when you feed provided you're not pigging out.
Hellcat
Don't say that Clare, I won't have any excuse to eat all the cake and chocolate then! I keep telling myself to enjoy feeding this one and not worry about the weight, as its my last. When I finish feeding I can do the diet thing and the exercise thing and the no choc thing...who am I kidding?
The Dogmother
Your last? Oh, treasure that moment Helen. I was devastated when Rosie decided that she'd had enough of breast feeding at 6.5 months old. I cried on and off for quite a while about it. Popcorn
Oh, yes I totally agree and am well aware of what dieting can do for a growing baby. Head screwed on, thanks. I'm not obsessive about my weight at all. I am what I am, and I'll loose it in good time. Anyway...best get back on topic, I think we drained this topic once before didn't we
kazaddress
I love WW. espechially the new "no count" plan. you dont have to count any points.. you can just eat anything off the list... and get 21points you can use if you wish on treats.. all lean meat fish all fruit and veg rice / pasta / polenta all stock cubes herbs and spices fat free and low fat yoghut skimmed milk extra low fat soft cheese cerials canned soups you HAVE to have 3 meals a day (from above list).. and you can snack of fruit all day
Chicken on a mission
I have 6 stone to lose I have gained weight at 1/2 stone every year since living with my hubby. Everyone tells you that you look good and can't weigh ** but they do you no favours by saying things to make you feel better or being polictcally correct. Before you know it you are a size 22/24 with the worst eating habits you can imagine and struggling to sort yourself out again When I fel pregnant with my little girl and in the 9 months after, I was the healthiest I'd been for 10 years. Then, like claire found, my daughter stopped feeding suddenly and that was that. I was devastated and my eating habits went back to (ab)normal again Now my OH and I are eating sensibly (exactly the same as before but no binging) rather than dieting since he was diognosed with diabetes just before xmas. The weight is dropping off of him (helped by the diabetes) and I am losing steadily. I know that the most important meal of the day is breakfast but I just can't do it Innocenti smoothies are better than nothing though and help towards the 5 a day
Guest
Innocent smoothies! I think I just might be able to live on them, if I could afford to!
