Richard
I asked him. He said they used to have a donkey and it died. They wanted to get something else and someone said they could have the peacocks if they could catch them. So they did. So, they are a replacement for a donkey. You don't get such good rides on a peacock, but the eggs taste OK apparently. Now if anybody other than Richard had given this answer, I would probably have believed it........but I dunno Tessa I can assure you it is true. and yes; much longer and I would have been on the wall Hillfamily obviously knows her indoors well. Actually, it did look peaceful on the wall, and the nights are getting warmer ... Now I have to get back to darning my socks - and I assure you that is true as well. I've just had to buy a new darning mushroom on the net - and the delivery was more than the cost of the mushroom - cost me over £7 to buy a £3 bit of kit! I should have made it myself but I couldn't be bothered; how lazy is that Mind you, I did get a good lot of 4 ply sock wool off ebay a while ago so I've been knitting a load of new socks - what luxury eh? Shame you didn't ask for a darning mushroom on the forum, I have one you could have had for free. 'Tis a long time since I darned a sock Tessa

bronze
Maybe he keeps them in pens because if he doesnt they run off and eat other peoples gardens. I love peacocks. My wedding 'theme' was peacocks and dragonflies. I love the way they have colours that noone would dare put together in fashion yet it looks amazing in nature. In fact it could be said I'm known for my peacocks because people still buy me stuff with them on.
Richard
I can see that he has now trimmed Amy's wing so she won't be so likely to fly out of the pen;

I once made a costume for the real 'moulin rouge ' in paris based on peacock colours, i wish i'd taken a photo of it. Do you have any photos of the wedding? xxx
The Dogmother
That's sad Richard, your garden was blessed with her presence. A chicken friend keeps peacocks - their eggs can fetch a fortune to breeders! Shame about the darning mushroom - I have a spare one you could have had. Amy's husband is gorgeous, like Joseph with his coat of many colours.
