Just had my ears pierced

Recommended Posts

Yes, in Spain they do the girls' ears as new borns. You don't get any choice. I had them done and totally disagree with the practice. i think is marking little females so that from a start we get treated differently. Bad news for me because as I grew up I wanted to do all the things that in Spain are allocated traditionally to boys (horse riding, driving fast cars, go out into the fields on my own...) - When I had my boys I purposely dressed them in neutral colours so "Ooops, word censored!"ody would presume that by being little men, they had to be roughened up, nor talked with a soppy 'skweeky' voice telling them how pretty they were, if presumed to be baby girls...

Myself? I reacted by becoming a tomboy and not wanting to wear skirts or earings since I was 2 - then they took me to a catholic convent school and had to wear a skirt for years! (I have very few nice things to say about the catholic nuns so I won't get started there...)

I had a second hole done in one ear when I was about 19 and at Art College - done it with a 'baby pointy stud', and an ice cube at the college's bar after a few lagers, by a punkette friend... (typical ex convent gal)

Now I'm a fairly normal, married, middle aged, mother of two long-haired boys, arty, chicken-keeping woman... so not too weird, considering...

...now... a tattoo... that I hadn't thought of... ...interesting idea...

I didn't have my ears pierced until I was 28. I was in Peter Robinsons in Oxford Street, now Topshop, looking for something to wear for a party and it was announced over the speaker system that they were doing ear piercing for £3 plus two pairs of sleepers, so I got it done. I have really sensitive skin and both the holes got infected :( I only really like silver jewellery but I can't wear silver in my ears. I have had all sorts of earrings but I have worn the same gold hoops now for about 12 years  I would never, ever get a tattoo.

For those of you with daughters that want to get piercings, how would you react if your sons wanted one? My youngest nagged me to get one of his ears pierced until I finally gave in  he now has three piercings in the same ear, I think it looks awful, but they are not my ears

I have 7 earrings in my ears, 3 in one and 4 in the other (oooo  when I put it like that - it sounds like a lot) I always wanted my nose pierced, but didnt think it would go down well being a teacher :?

couldnt cope with tummy button piercing, it really doesnt appeal :?

I would love a tattoo, but I dont know what I want, and I dont want to "hate" something after a few years.

congratulations on the ears :D

been trying to persuade my mum to get hers done, but she wont (she was 60 last week :D )

A friend of mine has 7 earings and a discreet tiny nose stud.

I have just had to wash ED's hair with the shower in the bath so as not to get her ears wet, because we have been tpld not to get them wet for 48 hours and her hair was too greasy for school tomorrow. Now I have got to work out how to do mine or leave it until tomorrow

I am going to buck the trend here

I loathe tatoos and piercings of any sort :?

I had my ears done when I was about 13 and for once my dad was right it was the worst thing I had ever done

Mind you being allergic to most materials including plastic doesn't help I suppose :?

I haven't put an earing in for more than 20 years and hate the little scars the holes have left :evil::evil:

I just don't 'get' tatoos either why anyone wants to permanently draw on their skin

Just my thoughts

I had mine down at 16, when I was 'allowed'

Never felt the need for any more piercings. Nor tatoos - they look OK on young skin, but they start to fade and spread on older, wrinkly skin...YUK!

I'd never be called conservative, but I'm just not into it.

Rosie had her ears done last year, at 9YO. But she let a friend take them out at school, then wouldn't let me put the earrings back in, so they healed over and she had to have them done again

Well done on the ear piercing! If you like earrings, it is so much more comfortable than clip ons! 8)

I've had my ears done twice but not worn earrings for so long that one of each of the holes has healed up! (the bottom hole on one ear and the top hole on the other ear) If I wear earrings now they are lopsided

My dad has always been really anti ear piercing and tattoos. A couple of years ago when I knew he was coming to visit, I used one of those glue on diamante studs stuck to the side of my nose. He freaked when he saw it and kept on saying 'oh that's awful, how could you, I don't like it, oh dear oh dear oh dear' I let him suffer for a while then said, 'oh OK, if you don't like it' and I peeled it off. He went balistic! Definite sense of humour failure there - took him a full half hour to see the funny side! 8)

I do Mehndi - Moslem henna tattoos, like the one below

Mehndi.jpg

I haven't done them for a while now ... it's something I learned when I used to live in Tunisia and I had quite a business going at one stage with the Moslem community in Banbury, plus some others, who just liked the look and wanted a design for a short period. I love the smell of the henna and often do my hands/feet and Rosie's in the summer, but only when she's not at school.

Best not to get it done when you're on holiday though - a friend had what she thought was a henna tattoo done, but it wasn't henna - some sort of black die - she staretd to itch shortly afterwards, then came up in red weals and still has a scar a couple of years on. If you're not sure, then give it a miss!

Clare, that looks beautiful! 8)

I have a few piercings. Did 10 in my ears myself with a compass when at secondary school. Now have only 5 in my ears, so I have turned very "conservative". I only wear the very top one whilst in teacher mode though. I hate seeing them on young children and do not want to give the wrong impression.

Imagine their horror if they knew that "Miss" also had her belly pierced! I keep that one to myself, which is just as well given my flabby belly....

No tatoos though: Not brave enough to do it, and I hate the way they always end up green, no matter what colour they were originally...
