Bahrain Boat accident

Recommended Posts

I am feeling really shocked and I wondered if anyone else has been affected.

Scott and Sandy Belch were married at our church in February. I spoke to Scott in Bahrain a couple of times and corresponded with him and Sandy by email. Their wedding was carefully planned and because Sandy was German, rather specially there were two Orders of service, one in English and one in German. The hymns were both German as was all the music. Half the congregation sang in English and the other half sang in German. It was really special.

Both Scott and Sandy died on the boat in Bahrain, just 6 weeks after their wedding.

How awful. That was a terrible disaster. It really brings it home to you how fragile life is, doesn't it. It is almost beyond comprehension how people so full of life, happiness and optimism for the future can be wiped out so cruelly and suddenly.

Thanks all! I didn't really know Scott and Sandra, but I was closely involved in planning the music for their wedding and I sang at it. I thoroughly enjoyed singing the hymns in German and even managed descants too. It was a really happy day and I can't believe they aren't here any more.

They had a beautiful poem at the wedding - an Eskimo Love Song.

You are my husband, you are my wife.

My feet shall run because of you

My feet dance because of you

My heart shall beat because of you

My eyes see because of you

My mind thinks because of you

and I shall love, because of you.

Such a waste of two beautiful young lives, well 3 actually - Sandra was pregnant as well!

It is lovely isn't it? I found it really touching and so appropriate for the start of a marriage. I'm still finding it hard to believe that they aren't here anymore. :(

Scott and Sandy's funeral will be at our church on Easter Tuesday. It will be a joint funeral and Sandy's parents will come from Germany. Their ashes will be flown back with both sets of parents to Germany where there will be a memorial service on Friday.

Scott's parents have asked for choir and bells at the funeral and we are doing our best to make it really special for them. It is really touching that both sets of parents want to come back to the same place.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts.

:(:(

We have just returned from practising 'Jesu, joy of man's desiring' in German. Fortunately we have a German teacher in the choir who was able to advise us about the pronunciation!

I missed out on this thread first time round and I am so sorry at the terrible waste of life. The poem was lovely and, set in context brought tears to my eyes. How wonderful though that there is going to be such a special service in rememberance of them - I really hope it all goes well and my thoughts and prayers will be with you and their family and friends during the service
