Rona
I've just been sent a lovely video clip of an advert for BBC iPlayer about penquins flying to the rainforests of South America for the winter. Haven't seen in on TV but have just watched it about 4 times it is really funny . Don't know how to post it on here but if anyone wants to pm me their email address I will forward it on. Trixabell
Bob shakes like that all the blimmin time, when i 'm about to walk him, when we leave the house without him, when i'm about to feed him, I have actually been asked if he is a rescue dog!!! This really offended me because he lives a life of royalty, he is a pampered pooch who somehow during a storm one night came to share our bed and hasn't gone back downstairs since!!! I don't oppose the advert but it didn't really do anything for me

Mel (& Paul)
Well our terrible terrier Blue is very like the dog on the VW ad (although she's a she and black....... ) But she is full of confidence and bounce when in her comfort zone (as those of you have met her will know!) - but out of it her stumpy goes down, she creeps around and looks thoroughly miserable (she's a rescue dog so we are not sure what some of her problems are) We liked the advert as it reminded us of Blue - and having met some "acting" dogs I think you will find that the dog was trained to look pathetic - albeit using something to make it tremble so much. Egluntyne
If you go back to my first post you will notice that I say that I realise it was camera trickery. What I am trying to get across is that I found it vaguely disturbing that the imagery used which suggested a trembling and frightened dog could be transformed into a macho confident animal just by rising in this really rather mediocre car...was very inappropriate.. We all see things differently I suppose.
Mel (& Paul)
But then all advertisements are trying to tell us that we will be better / stronger / healthier /fitter / more popular / have longer lashes / thicker hair and it all has to be taken with a pinch of salt Blue likes the advert anyway
Egluntyne
Delighted that Blue is happy. Where have you been anyway?
Mel (& Paul)
Very busy working (just waiting for a macro in a huge spreadsheet to do its thing and thought I would pop in and say hi!) and during the weekends busy walking the dogs / riding the horses and watching the chooks
Egluntyne
Sounds idyllic...apart from the macro spreadsheet thingy!

Lesley
I love Excel - but I am glad you live so far away...... Once you start looking at adverts in YouTube, it is very difficult to get away
Popcorn
Absolutely. I think that excel is the spawn of the devil Hello our Mel! Good to see you. I am just trying to work out a formula in excel - argh - hate it! Can I email it to you pls! The ad. hmmm. I thought it was amusing. It didn't disturb me nor did I find it offensive. My in-laws whippets stand and do the shakey thing. It's got some good publicity though hasn't it....... But then all advertisements are trying to tell us that we will be better / stronger / healthier /fitter / more popular / have longer lashes / thicker hair and it all has to be taken with a pinch of salt Good point Mel. Most of the creams/potions advertised generally have to be used alongside botox or plastic surgey to have the best possible effect! I still believe it's what goes in that makes the outside look good. Tessa the Duchess
ANH is the forum whizz with Excel. Gosh really? I hate Excel I have a friend who is an accountant, she says Excel is a mathmatical playground Tessa
Valkyrie
Just read that the ad is to be pulled after lots of complaints. Apparently the dog can quiver on command as part of his acting skills! I didn't think it was necessary for the advert - the singing dog was good enough.
