Guillermo Vargas Habacuc **distressing thread**

Recommended Posts

I have just received a very distressing e mail from a friend regarding the above so called 'artist' who took a starving dog from the street, tied it to a leash as some sort of art exhibit and left it to starve to death!?

I find this so hard to believe and think it must be some sort of hoax. Surely the gallery owners and the visitors to the gallery would not have allowed this to happen.

Please someone tell me this is a hoax or a publicity stunt to highlight the plight of stray animals. I can't believe it actually happened!!????

I've been sent a link to a petition because "The Visual Arts Biennial of Central America decided that the 'installation' was actually art, so that Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008." Or so the e mail says.

It can't be true, can it?????

that's what I thought, surely it would make the news!??? If it is a hoax then it's a clever way to highlight the plight of stray animals, providing they cared for the dog afterwards of course. If they just released it back on the streets then that's truly sick.

If it's true, and I really cannot believe it could be, then, then, OMG, I'm lost for words!

I wouldn't put it past them... without prejudice: Central America = bull fighting, cock fighting, not the best animal (nor human) rights keepers on the planet, are they?

I think that idiot is just wanting to follow example of the other idiot who exhibited animals cut in half... monkey see monkey do. Talentless people have to do something outrageous to get attention, that's all.

Why don't they chop their own hand or something and get people to go an see it? why do they have to pick on creatures that can't defend themselves?

Sorry, that's got me. As an artist and Spanish animal lover living in the UK, it's a long time since I had a bad anger attack about the fact that animal cruelty is not art, no matter how many sequins in your jacket or cotton wood stuffed up your crotch you wear!

Anyway, I hope the dog is rabid and bits him badly!:evil::evil:

...or that he gets horrid reviews and his "career" gets totally ruined.:twisted::twisted:

so mote it be

This is obviously a very sick thing, and anyone calling that 'art' is just in it for making cash out of shocking people and causing outrage...

This being said, I would be careful on wishing bad things on people... as disgusting as this is, wishing for people to be treated in the same way, though I understand the anger and emotion, is not something I could do... there are so many people ill treating animals in this world, and while I wish for that to change, the thought of all those same people suffering in their turn, is no comforting, positive thought... it wont take back the suffering inflected on the animals either... my dad used to beat any visiting cat in our garden with a stick (though he often missed, thankfully), and I wouldn't have wished for him to be beaten with a stick because of it... thankfully he now has cats of his own and would cry at the thought of anyone trying to even think of harming them...

I hope that somehow the petition, or the reaction of people to this kind of things, will make a difference, and influence the 'artist' to think more humanely in the future... and hopefully have a negative influence on their income, popularity, and reputation, to teach them things should have the right consequences... I also think there should be much stricter laws in many countries about these things... that too will take fair amount of petitions and campaigning...

Again I understand the anger and reactions, but please all of you humane nice people out there, keep that up in considering all living things... it's not worth lowering one's good feelings towards live beings, to how low those people who ill treat animals have let themselves get... Utter respect for life is truly something to be proud about...

Please don't think I'm judging anyone's reaction... these things are very distressing...

I agree the law lets people think they can get away with things they never would have years ago...the softly softly approach means no one is scared to commit a crime be it against animal or human, and when they are put in a fully furnished cell with a colour tv and given a catalogue to chose a new wardrobe from each time they are incarcerated, a lot of them pray they get sent down, no benefits to have to get up and sign on for and no job to have to go to (unless they volunteer) it's a life of luxury...and us who work for a living and slog all our lives to earn a crust and own a home etc, think WE ARE THE CLEVER ONES!!!!!! sorry I went off on bit of a tangent (and a rant then) feel much better now!:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Ditto to all of the above :D

I couldn't have put it better myself. I am also not saying that anyone's reactions are wrong but the way I see it- in a world of 'an eye for an eye' the whole damn world would be blind
