Egluntyne
They are adorable. I'm so tempted but I am resisting so far!
craftyhunnypie
ahhhh really really cute! They are like little sparrows when they hatch! Little thin legs with fluff.SO gorgeous - Congratulations! My sister had 12 Maran eggs in her incy. Only 4 were fertile & that was hard to tell & none hatched! Her friesian fowl hatched ok though. I had one dead in shell buff wyandotte, but when the egg was cracked, it was fully formed, but hadn't absorbed the egg yolk. Shame. susanbb
They are truly cute. Are you able to sex them at this age seeing as you have had experience or is it just a waiting game
Egluntyne
I think some of them are "sexable" on hatching because of the feathering.
Jules.
Fee they are beautiful I think it is wonderful and amazing that it only takes 21 days for a chick to hatch out, from just being a fertilized egg to a fully-formed chick.
feemcg
I find that amazing too, Jules - that you can stick an egg in a plastic box and create a life - amazing Emma, Marans are known to be difficult to hatch as they have tougher membranes. I have 2 out and one pipped but not making much progress, The other 2 were definitely rocking before but have stopped now - I've put them up to my ear and they're silent (you usually hear a 'squelching' noise or tapping). Very sad that they were alive yesterday
Ain't Nobody Here
They're so sweet . Sorry that some of them didn't make it though .
feemcg
3rd Maran is out - looks like another Black so bang goes my wish for a Splash. Not to worry, as long as it's a girl
Snowy
Well done Fee - they are lovely! I'd love a copper blue maran - they look gorgeous I know you are not supposed to help them hatch, but why not?
feemcg
I've helped a couple in the past. If you step in too early sometimes they haven't absorbed all the yolk sac and it's still outside the body. This happened with me and I got a damp swab and kept pressure on the umbilical area and kind of pushed it inside . I kept the pressure on until the bleeding had stopped - the chick ended up being fine Also, you could rupture a blood vessel and it could bleed to death - I picked a bit of shell off of the one that's just hatched, saw a big red blood vessel then left well alone! Snowy
Oh my word! Didn't realise there was so much going on inside the shell! Thanks Fee.
