craftyhunnypie
OOoo how lovely - little chicks are gorgeous aren't they? I held mine - once they got past the one day old stage. I pick them up loads each day & sing to them!!! I call it chook bonding! No the real reason is, I want them to carry on being really tame. I always make sure I wash my hands & use an antibacterial gel stuff too once they are dry. Oh & make sure your hands aren't too cold. I pick them up and make sure their little wings are held securely & they just sit there, listen to you & sometimes go sleep! I was really worried about my chicks until they started eating & drinking for themselves! Mine are now flippy flying round the brooder && doing the chicken dance! Hoping for more chickies... I forgot whats its called. I dont think s/he will make it as theres not much movement. S/hes chirping and opening her eyes though. We will just have to wait and see. craftyhunnypie
Oh I hope it';s ok. The umbilical cord thing, may dry up & drop off. It might just be exhausted with all the hatching process! Poor little luv. Emma.x
fairy&cake
S/he has just stumbled across the incubator dragging the cord and egg behind her. Poor baby. I wish i could help, but i know you cant, it makes things worse.
fairy&cake
UPDATE - the umbilical cord has dried up, and its feathers are drying well. The others are lounging about, i also just noticed as they are Gingernuts crossed with Cochin bantams, some of them have feathered feet like their daddy! Im so excited about all this, i have a graph of the temp and humidity going, i even set the alarm for 3am and 5am to check them and the levels of humidity etc. I might do the same tonight. I never thought it would be this exciting

We'll have to use the other method, methinks!!
